Profile
At the height of her 20 years old, Tifa Lockhart bounces (in more than one way) through life with energy and positivism. Always reaching out for those in need, sometimes at the cost of her own comfort, she's always upbeat and pushes on headstrong. As a result, she's often seen as the pillar of the group AVALANCHE, providing in encouragement, food and even money through the benefits of her barmaid work. She works hard to provide the best service and atmosphere in her bar, even if it's at the very bottom of the Midgar slums. The smile of people is always the best reward she can get for a job well done.
Background:
"Hey, why don't we make a promise? Umm, if you get really famous and I'm ever in a bind..... You come save me, all right?"
Nibelheim was what you could call the typical rural town. Built within a valley, it was blessed with fertile fields, a moderate climate all year long, gentle winds and a peaceful life. That's until Shinra came and installed their reactor, which slowly started eating away at the greenery, leaving an almost entirely barren and desolate chunk of rock for a mountain next to the town. Sure, things were easier with electrical power though, and habits changed into a comfortable life nonetheless, because noone really seemed to notice the effects on the nature around it.
Tifa came to be born in such a life, comfortable, not lacking much in any aspect. She was considered as the queen, the goddess, among her circle of friends in the village, which followed her around like obedient puppies where ever she went. At least until the incident, her stubbornness to do what she pleases carried her right into the dangers of the mountain range, and she would have fell to her doom, if it hadn't been for Cloud. The short-stacked, introverted neighbor that never was part of her friends because he was so bland and boring, who braved his own safety and even risked his neck trying to save her, and ended up taking the blame for her little venture. That event changed her, and made her rethink her ways unconsciously.
She became better friends with Cloud, and the 'little queen' disappeared over time, with maturity. Another blow to her was when Cloud decided to leave town to join SOLDIER and follow in the footsteps of his idol, Sephiroth, the strongest hero of all times. She didn't realize that it was Cloud's way of dealing with the fact she got hurt so long ago, even if it wasn't his fault. She couldn't stop him; all she could do, in one of her last selfish acts, (albeit a small one) was to make him make a promise that he'd come to save her if she ever was in trouble. Somewhere in her heart she still desired a true hero to sweep her off her feet, like the prince of fairy tales.
Years went by without news from Cloud, a longing for her hero made Tifa took up martial arts from the wandering Monk Zangan, moving on from waiting for him to perhaps being able to follow in his footsteps to find him again. She decided that while she would like, deep down, to be saved by her hero, she also can't allow herself to be an easy target, she'd at least give them trouble for their worth.
And then the twist of fate that brought Sephiroth and Zack to Nibelheim, investigating the monster appearances around the reactor. She was already 15, and her little queen ways had turned into a more spunky young girl. She offered herself as the guide for the SOLDIERS, unknowing that Cloud was part of the convoy and hiding from her, as he wasn't able to join SOLDIER as promised. While she was cut off from entering the reactor, she only could bear witness to the horror that was unleashed upon her village when Sephiroth, the revered hero, snapped and decided the rest of the world had to pay for some sin only he understood.
She saw the village burning, her father murdered, everyone in the village coldly eliminated. The usually caring heart of Tifa found a new emotion, pure rage for Sephiroth and Shinra, that destroyed her peaceful life in a matter of minutes. Following Sephiroth to the reactor, she tries attacking him with his own Masamune, that he had discarded inside her father's body. but the hero of old, even disarmed, was not so easily overtaken, and retaliated, slashing Tifa down across the stomach. Her consciousness was fading, when a lone SOLDIER grunt entered the reactor after her...
She woke up in a mountain cabin a few days later, healed up. Zangan had managed to find her before she lost all of her blood. She survived the Nibelheim massacre, unknowing that Cloud had taken up arms to strike back at Sephiroth after she passed out. Years later, her steps have taken her over to Midgar, the source of the 'evil' she saw in Nibelheim. While not striking directly, she joins up with the group called AVALANCHE, helping them out to chip away at the hold Shinra has over the city. She opens up the Seventh Heaven in the middle of the slums, a ray of light in the middle of the city without any sun, her cheerful personality winning over many customers, bringing in a steady income that she feeds over to the renegade group.
All keeping the hopes that maybe one day, she will find Cloud again...
Personality:
"Dilly-Dally Shilly-Shally!"
There's a few words to describe Tifa : Upbeat, Caring and Friendly. This is a girl that doesn't have much troubles making friends, with that charming smile and those vibrant red eyes. Even if the visuals are pleasing, her beauty doesn't stop at skin-deep.
She makes great efforts to comfort and please the people around her, which led her to opening a bar in the middle of the Slums. Trying to keep a positive outlook on things, she soothes the team up with her energy and cheerfulness constantly. While she's showing that exterior, the recesses of her heart speak otherwise often, while normally outgoing for other people, when it comes to herself she closes up, and shies away.
Putting everyone else on top of her priorities is a strong trait of her, even when it comes to heart aches. Its how she came to join AVALANCHE. Part of the reason was of the deep rooted hatred she still held for Shinra after the destruction of her village. But even that takes a side seat to the greater need, that the Mako energy is chipping away at the planet's life. The actions might be small, but she does believe it will one day benefit the entire world.
Hidden from most, even from herself often, she holds a deep affection for Cloud, mostly due to the events in Nibelheim, she still carries that wish of being saved when in danger. Although if she is very outgoing and friendly, other people's happiness and well-being always end up being put ahead of the rest, even her own desires.
But even when the going gets tough, she keeps the pace up with all of her energy. She is one of those people that believes there's always a rainbow at the end of every storm. The only way to truly lose is to give up along the way, and if anything she never abandons until the bitter end.
She doesn't like fighting overall, despite the fact that she's a strong martial artist, she is one that fights by need, rather than by wants. If someone is threatening her, the ones she cares for, even people she doesn't know, she wouldn't hesitate to jump in for the rescue. Maybe talking is better solution, but she can tell when a person won't listen to words. For that purpose, her body becomes the best weapon, dangerous even if essentially non-lethal.
Her favorite food is spaghetti meatball, while her favorite drink is the (surprisingly) non-alcoholic ginger ale. Even a barmaid needs to eep her head clear when surrounded by liquors and inebriated customers. She has read 'Loveless' recently, because its so popular, but the poetry of it flew over her head. She rather read romance novels, where she still entertains that 'white knight saving the princess' ideal from.
