Location: | Traverse Town-Beach |
Synopsis: | Avira has a word or two with her fellow Clan Dagda member Angantyr about this "Master Garland" business she's noticed. Ominous sweetness ensues. |
Cast of Characters: | avira, Angantyr Vespar |
- Avira has posed:
Angantyr knew Avira definitely wanted to meet and chat. Alone, clearly. Later she'd pass a few details about this intended meeting. She wanted to be away from town, far enough that various meddling people would not stumble across their conversation. There had been more than enough of that yesterday.
The short woman can be found alone, facing the sea as she stands on the beach. She isn't unarmed of course but she isn't actively holding her weapon. Maybe Angantyr will get a reprieve from having to fend off the overexcited novice tonight-yes, night. She's elected nighttime to have this conversation, perhaps for more privacy.
Her hands are clasped behind her back but she doesn't look relaxed otherwise.
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
Angantyr doesn't use darkness portals to go everywhere. Just from city to city, mostly. So he walks from the main city towards the beach, the large weapon still on his back as he makes his way towards the flowing waters and of course Avira. He walks, the sounds of his armor gives him away, because he does ware decent amounts of armor, as he finally stops next to her.
"So you wanted to talk?" he asks, keeping his hands at his sides as he considers the young and often exhuberant woman. He knew something was up with her, due to...well not having either a upbringing a noble would have, or the basics that someone who lives in the slums would...but he didn't force answers out of her.
He can also feel tension in the air. "What's up? I didn't forget anything important did I? I was pretty sure the next clan meeting was next week."
- Avira has posed:
Avira is especially sensitive towards the clanking of armor. It was extremely distinct and often herladed the arrival of Archadian guards when it came to living in Rabanastre. Though in this case, it heralds the arrival of the guy she wanted to talk to about earlier.
Trusting that it's him, she doesn't turn around to face him, allowing Angantyr to walk up to her side. When he speaks, she does glance her way, "Yes." Angantyr's assumptions were pretty on the mark. There was definitely no noble blood within her. At a few points she did allude to having grown up in a small village of no importance.
"No, it's not that. I'm just confused. I've never heard you call ANYONE 'master' before. Or let anyone hold you back. So what's the deal with you and that Garland fellow?"
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
Angantyr...pauses for a moment, looking out over the water thinking about how to express this to her...
"My dark powers are not strictly from Training, Avira. They are natural. I was born with them...when I as a child I had to be careful when I got angry...or excited...it wasn't as bad as a little kid, but when I got older..." he shrugs. "However, I managed to use this power to fight for my country before Arcadia...well.." he lets it pause, "during the darkness part, I was litterally a beacon out on the dark roads. They just kept coming...the more I fought, the more my power exploded forth from me...which attracted more of them..." he says.
"Then Garland found me nearly on the edge of complete exhaustion. He was like me, darkness came from within him like it did me. He showed me how to control it, how to bend it to my will. Not just that, but a lot of my fighting style is something I picked up from him. He's a mentor to me, and I give the man a lot of respect."
"I also know how dangerous he is. I respect that power, and generally he's not a bad guy. He's honorable, he's a good teacher for things of the nature of darkness. He'll also be straight with you..." He pauses.. "Also, he's /very/ dangerous, so don't go pissin' him off purposely. That Judge was lucky he's restrained...god...he'd kill him."
- Avira has posed:
She can practically feel that pause. This was an uncomfortable question to ask, wasn't it? Well Avira didn't care. Angantyr was her clanmate and she had an awful lot of respect for him and all he's done. He speaks and Avira is silent, not interrupting or asking questions until he's finished his full explanation.
She does have questions though.
Now she turns to him. "They just keep coming? They who?"
'A lot of my fighting style is something I picked up from him.' "...does this include your mentoring style too?" she asks, recalling the long, brutal sessions she endured with him. Sounds like they had been working with each other for quite some time now. Long before Angantyr met her.
Avira looks worried. "I don't intend to anger him on purpose. I've become pretty...embroiled in this whole enroaching Heartless thing as of late. That LEXUS program, I've fought him before. I fear I may end up crossing paths again with them, but not in a good way."
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
"What do you think attacked me in the darkness? The heartless." Angantyr says, shrugging. "They do that...they come and come...they are relentless and persistant. they only know hunger...not unlike the power I control." he says, "Except that the two darknesses are...different. I am sure the darkness I control is...cosmic in a sense." he says, shrugging, "I don't really know all the details." he says.
"And yes. Though I say I am a bit kinder than he is." trains more like Piccalo, as oppposed to Vegita.
"And yeah...we probably will. I have no beef with LEXUS, but if I am paid to fight him...well...if I am paid to help him, well...it's kinda a thing. I don't care about this darkness and light shit. It always existed...it always will. I'm not going to be a pawn in their game."
- Avira has posed:
"Had a feeling that was the case." Avira mentally files away that note. Heartless are attracted to the darkness in people? Yep. Especially since they came after Angantyr. "But that's fascinating to hear. They don't seem to fit precisely in any part of world mythology I have heard before."
It's one of those rare times for Avira where she sounds more like a...scholar if anything. It could explain a lot.
"I'm not sure whether I should be insulted or comforted by hearing that, Angantyr. You know I never wanted you to hold back." Though even the level he worked at was more than enough. There were many training sessions that ended with Avira in a concussion or bleeding out on the floor. She'd only get mad at herself over that.
A hint of sadness registers on her face. "I'm not surprised." she admits, given what she knew about how Angantyr operated. He was a businessman after all. "Well until your paid. What also worries me is this might mean that we will have to seriously face each other in the future." Well, it worries Avira. Likely not Angantyr since he knows just how little experience Avira has.
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
"I am not as brutal as he is...because I feel that you can't learn anything if you die in the attempt. Garland believes that you should live or die by your own merit...I think that people sometimes need a chance to learn." he says, shrugging, "Garland is a lot more harsh than I. That's all...anyway, if I went full Garland at you...you'd be dead on our first lesson. You hardly knew how to handle a weapon." he says, not mockingly...it's just blunt honesty. "Anyway, look at you now...you're strong." he says, "Strong and beautiful. Nothing more charmin' than someone that can stand on their own two feet." he says, with a grin. "Anyway, you know how I work. and if we cross blades...well, take it as a oppertunity to see how far you've come. I think neither of us wants to kill the other..." he says, giving her shoulder a pat. "Anyway, is that all? If you're looking for Dark Knight training, I can't help you there...infact, I'd tell you to bugger off. Sorry, but...it's not something I'd wish on anyone."
- Avira has posed:
"Hmm, fascinating." Avira really does sound fascinated. She was learning quite a bit about Garland through all this-and of Angantyr himself. If there was anything she was really good at, it was learning, right? "Yes, I barely could, could I?"
She doesn't sound insulted by the insinuation at all either. It was the truth after all. Even the way she wields the Spine showed remnants of that, mostly in the way she constantly adjusted the grip on the hilt which would never happen with standard swordplay. Yet somehow it wound up working for her.
A demure look falls on her face, "Oh Angantyr, do you really mean it?" she says softly at the compliment, "Hearing that from you really makes my day."
Solid nodding follows. "I certainly don't want to kill you. I...Angantyr, I've never actually killed a person before." Beasts and Heartless definitely don't count. "And if I ever do..." If she ever can. She's never really...thought about that before. "...I definitely will not have it be you."
Forcing herself to change the subject, she barks out a laugh. "Oh no, absolutely not. I don't think I have it in me. Ice magic is difficult enough on its own. I doubt there's any potential in me for controlling dark magic. Yes, that is all, Angantyr."
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
Angantyr gives her a smile, "Of course I mean it. I make it a habbit to never say things I don't mean. I'm a bit too honest for my own good, but eh...I call it a good quality." he says. Also, he smiles, something that doesn't happen often...but he's gotten to know her, and so the kinder side of the man is a bit...looser.
But the conversation turns...he takes a breath, "If you keep fighting, it will happen someday. Mercy isn't a thing that has a place on the battlefield. There is a difference between being a murderer and defending yourself too. Still...it's a thing that will always have signifigant meaning..." he says, and gives that shoulder another squeeze. "I think you're strong enough to not let it twist you, but it will change you. Nor can you think you can get away with not killing eventually...it's arrogance to think that you can save everyone...some people just refuse to be saved."
"Anyway...don't make me go avenge you either." he says, very serious about that. "It's good to hear. Dark magic isn't good...hell, if it wasn't for the fact that it'd devour me if I didn't learn to control me...I'd forget about it...but well, what can you do? We all got our burdens to bear, and complain' about it doesn't fix it." he says, with a smirk.
After a moment, he sits down. "I like the ocean...especially at night. It's...peaceful...you can just close your eyes and just get lost in the sound."
- Avira has posed:
It's pretty easy to make snap judgements about people based on class. Dark Knights in particular. They're evil! They use darkness! Avoid at all costs! Yet though Angantyr seemed pretty intimidating at first, he wasn't an evil dark knight. Or just a rude jerkass mercenary. No, there was more to him, and it was comforting to see.
Though now it contrasted even more strangely with the brutal man that has become his mentor.
She lifts a hand and places it atop the one on her shoulder. Her head turns to face him as he says his piece on this extremely heavy subject. "If my life is at stake, I can see myself doing it." But after putting someone in submission? "But at this point, it isn't something I look forward to." Not faced with such a choice this instant, she finds Angantyr's words-and vote of confidence-extremely comforting. Her hand squeezes his as if to reflect this.
"I will be sure! I will not go out and get myself killed." She looks to Angantyr, "Can you promise me the same? That I won't have to avenge you?" Of course, there's nobody she can attack if dark magic eats him alive from the inside!
She settles down next to him. "Yes." she says quietly. After that, she says no more, listening to the sound of the waves rhythmically crashing against the shore.
- Angantyr Vespar has posed:
"I don't make any plans on dying...not yet. There are so many things I want to do." Angantyr says, reflecting on her promise. "So it's a promise...and between warriors it should be the strongest one we can make." he says, with a small smile. The tide rolls in and out finally, and he lets silence take over their conversation...it was peaceful, very peaceful as he considers what was infront of him.
Finally after some time, he speaks.. "So..." he says...words kinda fail him right now.
