:'''[[Zia]] has posed:'''<br />Fluorgis was under attack. Wherever Skoll was that night, the call to help would have gone out, possibly to go unanswered as only a vibration in the phone at his belt. The aftermath was nothing like what had happened in Manhattan. Rather than refugees fleeing from a world going dark, the heroes seemed to be able to fight back the invasion force. Maybe the key is that the 'Heart' of this world still remains safe, or perhaps it was the fact that this attack came without the presence of any of the Shadow Lords, even if one or more surely sat pulling the strings. <br /><br />For Zia, it had been another test of her abilities. Yet again, it had left her feeling vulnerable compared to so many others who were clearly warriors - fighters of some higher caliber. Before the battle for Manhattan, the gargress had never really had a reason to need to defend herself in that way. Sure, she had tried to wiggle and claw and growl when the priest had captured her as a child, but all of that had never done any good against those who held power over her. For all the time that she had been caged, first by the priest and later by the mage who 'saved' her, Zia had learned not to try fighting back. It only made matters worse. But rather than making her meek and docile, it gave the girl time to be clever. All of their control had never broken her spirit.<br /><br />Many of the Shard Seekers are out dealing with the aftermath - helping people get home or cleaning up some of the destruction, but Zia is back at HQ. After the recent attempts by strange people to gain access, she's averse to letting the building go unwatched. Of course, her idea of guarding headquarters involves being out in the garden with a training dummy that she'd pieced together from pillows and boards and a few other odds and ends. It even has a frying pan for a helmet. So far, Faruja had been too busy to begin her combat training, and Skoll had been off elsewhere, so the gargress has taken matters into her own talons. <br /><br />A series of practice weapons lay scattered across the table. There's wooden swords, staves, blunted maces, all sorts of things that she's gathered. Most of them look to be in states of disrepair, as if she had found them tossed aside as refuse and had managed to piece them back together. Only one of the weapons actually seems real, and it sits apart from the others. The sword is ornate, distinctly foreign, the hilt and scabbard written with strange curving writings. Skoll might have seen this before when they moved her things from the small, abandoned apartment in Manhattan. Zia didn't have much - a few scraps of clothes, a salvaged laptop, a few gadgets that she'd tinkered with herself... and the sword. <br /><br />For now, it remains laying there across the table as she growls ineffectually at the practice dummy. The sight of such a thing is frankly, amusing. She's bruised from being batted around during the attack, but she moves in an awkward stance, a staff in her hand. With a growl, Zia lashes forward, swinging the staff with those untrained hands, slamming them into the side of the dummy. It's long enough that when the blow strikes, she ends up jabbed hard in the stomach by the other end, letting out an 'oof' of sound. Combat expert - she is not. The girl raises the staff, turns it upside down, then tries to jab it forward instead - this one ends up with her losing her footing from the sudden stop, sprawling outward in a mass of limbs and wings. <br /><br />With a growl, she tosses the staff away, then rubs at her butt with a complete lack of grace. <br /><br />

:'''[[Skoll Ulfang]] has posed:'''<br />Skoll had been quite busy with the Twilight Detective Agency, trying to stop some crazy scientists from doing EVIL SCIENCE. No really, that had been a thing during that encounter. That, and keeping the now 'human' Avira safe. But with that mess over, the youth actually checked his phone and found out that stuff had been going down in Fluorgis. Imagine his surprise that it had been Zia who'd put in the message. It didn't take long for Skoll to make his way to Fluorgis simply because... well... he can portal his way there. It rocks being a villain at times. Now if only he got the whole 'being villainous' thing down more. <br /><br />A little walk through Fluorgis later, the werewolf has made his way through the city and found his way to the Shard Seekers HQ. On the way, he managed to hear a few rumors on what had just happened, but it's just bits and pieces as people complained about heartless. Imagine his surprise to see the HQ quite so empty. Although on second thought - he realizes that they are probably out there, trying to help the people. At the back, he hears sounds however. It would appear that the place isn't /entirely/ deserted. <br /><br />Good. Who knows if rioters might loot his bacon from the fridge.<br /><br />The werewolf makes his way over to the back, just in time to see the gargess bash the little training puppet... and fall on her rear. The youth shows his teeth and makes one of those cartoonish wincing expressions as he sees her fall, and then moves to her side offering a hand. To get her up... not to help her rub her butt. "M'lady?" He words, as he waits for her to accept or reject his offer, before finally looking to the training doll and the allotment of... 'weapons'.<br /><br />"You look like you could use some help..."<br /><br />

:'''[[Zia]] has posed:'''<br />Sitting there, Zia gives a scowl towards the training dummy, as if it had somehow been at fault for her landing unceremoniously on her rump. Normally, she might have noticed someone coming in, and she certainly would have realized that there was someone else in the garden, but... right now she's a little preoccupied. It isn't until the hand appears in her peripheral vision that she flinches, moving her head away slightly before her eyes manage to focus on the rest of the person attached to it. "Skoll." Hey, she used just his first name! It's progress.<br /><br />She lets out a breath, and then takes his hand, using it to heft herself back up onto her feet. "Ye scared the daylights outta me, ye sly wolf. Did nae one ever tell ye tha it's impolite te sneak up on a lady." She's teasing him mostly, her tone of voice kept light. Her ears are tipped downward though, feeling more than a little embarassed that he got to see the collosal failure that is her fighting skills. <br /><br />"Ye missed the party." She notes, motioning out to the city at large. There are still places where smoke billows up from fires that haven't yet been put out. The people of Fluorgis seem to ahve things under control though, and there are more than enough would-be heroes and adventurers about to lend a hand. For Zia, it's too close to dawn for her to be trapsing about the city. Luckily, the girl doesn't seem too worse for wear, although she has a few small cuts here and there, and some bruising on one shoulder. It's nothing that a day's sleep won't fix. <br /><br />And then he has to point out that she really could use some help with the whole 'training' thing. "Ye think?" She asks, although it's more sheepish than sarcastic. She bites at her lower lip, then kicks at the staff with her foot. A staff-wielder she is not destined to be, apparently. "Every time those things attack, Ah see all these heroes jumpin te action. All Ah do is fly around, flailin about, tryin nae te get m'self killed while still hurlin a bit'a magic in their direction. Usually ends up wi' me gettin a reintroduction with m'friend gravity."<br /><br />

:'''[[Skoll Ulfang]] has posed:'''<br />Skoll is indeed surprised when she uses his first name. But whatever surprise doesn't remove that little grin on his face. The situation, after all, is a bit rediculous. "Oh, Sly I am now?" He asks, gripping her hand firmly and pulling her up. He's strong, something one could tell from his physique, but he truly does pull her up with very little trouble. "Still, my appologies Lady Zia, I did not mean to sneak up on you. I just happened to walk in." The young man bows his upper body a little, and then erects his posture once more.<br /><br />"Still, I am a Mysterious wolf, remember?" There's a certain element of playfulness between these two that had come to form a little while ago since that moment in the kitchen. For all of Skoll's worries, that is what makes their relationship at least somewhat unique. "And yeah, I saw I missed the party. Looks like it was a real 'blast'." As much as he jokes, his expression grows a little wry as he states this. "I'm sorry I could not be there." His ears flatten a little. "I was occupied in Traverse Town - trying to root out some 'Evil Science' from Hearts Intertwined, so it can be restored to its proper form of helping people."<br /><br />The youth then looks about, finally letting go again, and then looks up at the 'sun'. Or rather, the lack there-of, but light starting to come to be. It's Zia's comment about training that has him turn his attention back to her again. He listens her out about the flying, and nods his head. "Might want to drag a shield into battle then? But maybe a staff isn't the best for trying to defend yourself... although I hear it's supposed to go great with 'magic' and 'air' and all that..." The werewolf shrugs. "Back where I am from, those who practiced magic still just used their claws." He brings his hand down to his side, grabs his chain, and then holds it up. Or rather, he dangles it from his raised hand. Within moments, a corrupted purple static forms around it, lightning arcing from its body towards the ground.<br /><br />"This is all that I can do with magic. I specialize in chains. But as you can see, it can be 'conducted'."<br /><br />

:'''[[Zia]] has posed:'''<br />The gargress leans down to dust off her legs and loincloth, trying to shake off the sheepish feeling that comes with having someone walk in on a spectacular failure. It isn't as bad as it would be for some, though. She knew that this wasn't going to come to her overnight, and the fact that she's pretty much been training herself up to this point means that progress has been next to non-existant. "Aye, did nae one tell ye? Nae as sly as a fox, mind ye, but the old tales say wolves are a quite clever creatures. Tha' 'n they go eatin grandma's." The gargress continues her line of teasing, a smirk playing on her expressive features.<br /><br />"Aye aye, the great 'n mysterious Skoll Ulfang, Ah know." Zia gives a roll of her eyes, bemused. She can read a few of those wolfish queues, and her smile falters a tad. "It's alright. We managed te hold them off. They attacks're gettin worse, though. Ah didnae see any of their leaders in the lot, but there were so many Heartless." She lifts a taloned hand to her head, rubbing at her temple and then using that same hand to brush her hair back from her face. <br /><br />"Ah think it would look a wee bit silly fer me te go chargin inte battle with a great ruddy shield. Ah jus'... need te figure somethin out." She looks across the array of practice weapons, trying to ignore the feeling in the pit of her stomach that comes with approaching dawn. There's still time, though. "Neither of m'parents were fighters, but m'aunt usedte teach m'brother when Ah was little." She shrugs, giving another of those unsure sort of smiles, "Ah dinnae remember much about it. Da never liked me te learn that sorta thing. He always would drag me away, tell me stories, teach me to read." <br /><br />She lays a hand on the one real sword in the batch, "Ah wonder wha' he'd think of me now."<br /><br />

He pauses for a moment, thinking about this comment, and then adds; "Unless they are mate-in-laws. Nobody ever likes the in-laws." Wether he's joking, or just picked up something from the humans as he's gone along is anybody's guess. Either way, he's smirking right on back. "But yes. The great, /dark/ and mysterious Skoll Ulfang! Honorable and noble too!" Skoll claims.<br /><br />"Still." His ears fold down a little. "I am glad you are okay though. I wouldn't want anything to befall you. You already lost Manhattan... I would not want you to lose this second, though temporary, home as well." He comments, tilting his head a little before he moves back and leans against a nearby wall. Skoll is busy trying to imagine Zia wielding a shield. A big iron round shield. In one way, it works, in another... it surely does not. It'd also just get in the way of those wings, no?<br /><br />He then looks at the 'shiny' weapon she'd brought. "I'm sadly not very good with most weapons. But it looks like you brought that one out that you had back at Manhattan. Why not try and use that? In fact... if neither you or your family are good at fighting - how'd that sword get into your posession anyhow?" That's around the time she lays her hand on the weapon.<br /><br />"I don't know. But I am sure he'd be proud of you for defending Manhattan." <br /><br />

:'''[[Zia]] has posed:'''<br />"Are ye now?" Zia asks, raising an eyebrow slightly to look at him with incredulous humor, "Tha's nae wha the stories say." She conitnues the line of teasing, but then smirks slightly, "Then again, we havenae had real wolves in Sco'land for years, 'n it isn't much be'ta in America either." In many ways, the plight of wolves around the world isn't that different from that of the gargoyles. Then again, most humans knew about wolves, and still feared them, or were apathetic to their plight. <br /><br />It's better not to let her mind go down that train of thought. After being asked, mid-battle, if she recognised any of the Heartless, though... it's rough. The question had brought back memories of her family. While most gargoyles had loyalty and love to clan, her clan had been her biological family. Even if her aunt and brother had survived those many years, had they made it through the fall of Manhattan? Were they Heartless now? The thought is chilling, and before she can help it, Zia capes her wings around herself, "Aye, great 'n dark 'n noble 'n mysterious. Sounds aboot right, there lad, but ye fergot the 'cute 'n fluffy' part." <br /><br />At least she holds on to her humor even as her mind goes elsewhere. The gargress has her eyes downcast, but she nods none the less. "We're nae talkin second time, more like fifth. O'course, tha's at a stretch." Lifting her gaze, Zia looks over towards him. "M'kind arenae meant to be clanless, except fer a rare few who like it tha way. Guess it's not so different from wolves like yerself." Wolves usually had their pack, except for a few rare loners. <br /><br />She doesn't realize that her hand is resting on the sword until he points it out. When he does, Zia blinks, then moves her hand away. "It's been passed down in the clan, like the crystal." She admits. "The sword te the male heir, the crystal te the female. M'da 'n mum were the last mated pair in our clan, so it fell te them. After they died, it came te me." From the story, it's clear enough that if her brother had ever returned, the sword would rightfully be his, but... that seems impossible now. <br /><br />"Ah wouldnae have any idea how te wield it, 'n it's be'ta te stick with these, where Ah'm nae likely te maim myself if Ah screwed up." She smirks, but there are a couple of wooden practice swords on the table. "Maybe Ah should ask Faruja te teach me tha, though. Some ancestor musta known how. Maybe tap inte that whole 'tribal memory' nonsense." She doesn't seem to really believe in that. Just because some ancestor had held a sword, doesn't mean that she's likely to be any good at it.<br /><br />

"Though I don't think you want to have me trying to disprove that one." The werewolf's ears perk a little during this little line of silly humor and joking about stories. "Still, it's never good to hear about a species going extinct. While my people often kept the balance of nature in mind - it's not like we were perfect either." Over-hunting is still something that happened at times. They were still a highly sentient species after all, and diseases would strike at the worst times.<br /><br />The youth then looks at his tail, which is slowly wagging in recognition of Zia's presence. "Well... fluffy sure. But... I'm not really going for the 'cute' here. More for the cool." And with that last word being said, he runs his hand through his hair to flatten it a little, letting his wolfish ears show a bit more - but not for long. They're the most expressionistic part of his body, hiding back in his hair when Zia points out just how many 'homes' she has lost. Of course the young man realizes he doesn't know that much about the girl gargoyle. <br /><br />"Indeed, it's not that different." Skoll agrees, and then glances back to the sword, moving around the girl to get a better look as she retreats her hand from it. "You should. I think Faruja might indeed know how to wield a sword. Otherwise, perhaps you may try Ivo. I heard he's good with a sword too." He offers. "As for 'tribal memory', I'm not sure what to say there. My people used to pray to their ancestors, but that's as far as it went. Strength gets passed down through the family, it was supposed to be... but my father just saw that as an excuse, I think now, to deny my sister."<br /><br />

Even so, his plight is worse than her own, since he has no idea if anyone escaped. She at least knew that a handful of other gargoyles lived through the battle for Manhattan. Life has thrown a great many things at her, but Zia is one of those resiliant people who somehow always manage to get through it, so far at least.<br /><br />Swinging the sword with an unpracticed arc, the gargress tries to get a feel for the weight of it. The real sword is heavier, but this one is at least made with some semblance of balance in mind. "Ah'll havete ask 'n see who might be able te teach me. Most gargoyles stick te using their claws, but Ah'd prefer te have a wee bit'a distance between me 'n whomever wantste kill me." She flexes her fingers in the air, "Besides, these willnae do much against an armed opponent. Claws cannae defend against guns and swords."  <br /><br />She listens to him speaking about the way his own family worked, "It's different than tha fer us. We carry our clans with us, even when they die. Or so m'da's stories always said. It wasnae aboot strength, but aboot family."<br /><br />

Just like how the Humans and Werewolves were so different. He remembers Hati commenting on him being 'too human' at some point too. He didn't see that as a negative thing though - mostly because he knew he was still a true werewolf.<br /><br />"Ah yes, girls just swoooning at my feet. Just look at you down there." Skoll just shakes his head, joking along to let her concentrate on the good things in life. But mostly, because it amuses him. It's rare for him to get a chance at silly banter like this. He offers as a suggestion. "I could teach you about the chains, but they took me years to figure out. And even then, it's unique magic I use with these, so not particularly something for..." That's what he gets for that sort of comment. The gargress twitches her nose, but then her lips form into a smile that seems to light her features. It's been a long time since she's smiled like this, just in the ease of the moment. It's an easy enough smile that she might almost forget that the Heartless attacked her home today, and that she'd been warned not long ago that his 'Lords' had an interest in her in the worst sort of way.<br /><br />For now, though, Zia sets the practice sword down. It seems as if she's done messing with her failed attempt at combat training this evening. Instead, she scootches herself up onto the table, her long taloned-toes only barely grazing the ground. "Ah think Ah'll stick te somethin a bit more simple. This doesnae come quite naturally te me, so better te learn one thing 'n go from there." <br /><br />The gargress leans forward a little, her hands braced on either side of her as she looks towards the wolf. "It isnae like tha fer us. Nae normally, anyways. Usually, a gargoyle wouldnae even know who their biological parents are, though Ah'd say they could have a good guess. Hatchlings are raised by the entire clan, nae a set of parents. But... m'mum 'n da' were the last pair in our clan. Kinda hard not te know who m'parents were."<br /><br />

Skoll comments, and makes an exaggerated motion as he puts his hand to his mouth and nose, audibly exhales, and then pretends to almost faint. "Arrrgh! Dogbreath!" He jokes, before stabilizing himself again and leaning back against the wall once more - while chuckling heartily. It's been a while since he himself had smiled and laughed so honestly. It may be somewhat childish humor, but hey - it's Disney. <br /><br />He watches her get herself situated on the table, and looks down at those talons of hers for a moment, before looking back up to the girl's eyes. Well, just for a moment anyhow - he doesn't want to risk suddenly becoming a giant fluffball of doom right before her. "Yeah, if you want simple, a sword is probably the way to go. That, or a flying pan." He's being /completely serious/ as he says this latter part. You don't even know the power! The power of the frying pan!<br /><br />The werewolf pushes himself away from the wall, looking up at the sky to estimate how long Zia still had of being 'awake', before looking back down to her. "You wouldn't know who your biological parents are? I mean, I've heard of tribes that collectively took care of the cubs, but that's certainly different from where I come from." <br /><br />

It's a sweet sound, like her voice when she'd sung to the refugees in Traverse Town, although Skoll hadn't been there to hear it. It's not often that she opens up and just relaxes as herself, but when she does, it is like seeing the warmth and glow of a candle flame compared to the shadow it casts. "Well, the truth of it is, lad, yer lucky tha most of us have a fondness fer bacon, otherwise it might be enough te bowl over those lesser others." The way that the werewolf goes through bacon, it wouldn't surprise her if people pointed out the way to the Shard Seekers HQ by telling people to follow the smell.<br /><br />Alas, there's no chance of looking in her eyes causing any sort of change, but the instinct might be there none the less. "Ah dinnae think Ah'm really the fryin pan type. B'sides, it's a bit hard te lug one of those things around all the time. Though maybe ye'd like tha. It just means ye could have bacon more often." She muses, wondering if the wolf has an alterior motive there in selecting that particular 'weapon'. "Ah'm onte ye, ye sly wolf." She notes, waggling a talon at him. <br /><br />As the conversation comes back to clans and the like, Zia shakes her head, white strands falling over her shoulders as she moves. "Nae usually. M'family were jus' small enough tha we knew, but it wasnae as if anyone ever said one or the other. M'aunt 'n brother helped te raise me, but m'parents were probably more involved than in other clans, Ah'd guess." She touches the crystal at her neck, which she'd been more apt to wear in the open these days, probably because it didn't hold that power anymore. "Ah dinnae know wha it woulda been like in a big clan. Like havin lots of parents, where they all watch over ye and protect ye. Might be nice... but Ah loved mum 'n da, so... I wouldnae wish te change anythin."<br /><br />

Not just because of something that was said, but simply because he's having a good time. "Aye. It's a good thing too. I mean, otherwise, I might have to think you an eeeevil villain. After all, only villains don't like /Bacon/!" Skoll decides, grinning widely. "It's my secret weapon!" And that moves right into the frying-pan comment. "Ach, ye'r onte me, ye sweet gargess. He flashes his teeth at her and makes a little hand-gesture.<br /><br />The wolf then nods and moves a little closer to her, until he finally just gets right onto the table with her - sitting riiight next to her. He'd not seen her enough to specifically notice her wearing it out and about. But he knows that it resisted the curse formerly.<br /><br />"It's nice, to have that big of a family. But the more of them there are, the more start bothering you about silly things." He pauses, and then adds; "But look on the bright side, there'd be a whole lot of 'dads' to get permission from if the 'moms' said no!"<br /><br />

With all that has happened recently, it feels good just to have moments like these. The darkness would come again soon, but these... these are the moments that make it worth it. "Ahah, see. Ye thought ye could pull the wool over m'eyes, but Ah'm onte ye." She does that silly thing where she takes two fingers, points them at her eyes, and then at his. Watching you.<br /><br />She scootches over a bit to give him some room as he comes to sit next to her, not seeming to mind the company in the least bit. Her tail hangs off the edge of the table, swaying slightly. There are clouds in the sky tonight, and no sign of the stars beyond them. "Aye." She murmurs whistfully. "All the stories m'da used te tell me said tha they were sometimes so large tha when they took flight, they'd block out the stars." For someone who has barely met a handful of her own kind, that many of them seems like an impossibility.<br /><br />He does bring a chuckle from her, though. "Pssh. M'da would give me anythin Ah wanted anyways. Total daddy's girl." She smiles fondly, then looks skyward, wrapping her hand not around the crystal, but that small jar with those two bones. "Ah miss them sometimes. It's silly Ah know. Maybe after all these years Ah shouldnae still think of them, but they're a part'a who Ah am. As much as the wolf is part'a ye." Her expression is still fond, but not quite as joyous, then. "Guess it was a bit different fer ye at least. Nae a clan, but a pack?"<br /><br /><br />

With her now scootched, the werewolf puts his hands on either side of himself and gets comfortable. Well, as comfortable as one can get on the edge of a table anyhow. "Hrrm, my mom used to tell me all kinds of stories. The only one that truly ever stuck with me and my lil' sister is the story of our namesakes. She had never been one to search out that kind of connection, even if she had heard stories about such things in the past. "M'da usedte tell me tha the first time he saw mum, tha he knew. Like the night had changed 'n she had replaced all the stars in his world." With a soft smile, Zia lifts her shoulders in a shrug. "Ah think he only said tha because mum was listenin. It's a romantic sentiment, but... Ah dinnae know if tha's what really happened." She knew from her aunt that the two he and his mother had joined them as visitors, and then stayed when some bargain was struck between parents to merge the two clans.<br /><br />She smirks a little, "Knowin yer luck, he'd line up a buncha real wolves 'n ask ye te pick one." She does reach out a hand to touch his shoulder, a brief, gentle sort of touch that doesn't linger long as she pushes herself up from the table, grabbing onto the sword and slinging the scabbard's strap over her shoulder. "Who knows, maybe ye've even met her already, 'n she's just out there waitin on ye te find 'er. Ah certainly cannae be yer only female friend. Big world. That word makes him smile, and his tail wag a little bit more. It seems he likes the concept of Zia referring to him as a friend.<br /><br />He didn't have many of those. Not really. And who knows what would happen when he'd soon take the Shard Seekers' toy?<br /><br />"Still..." He is about to say something else, but Zia points out she needs to get to the rooftops. He's not looking for a 'lightning strike', he doesn't need this to be about the ultimate love. He just feels there is a place in his life left unfilled. Sure, there's some parts of him that wish now and again. But he has so many thoughts and hesitations and hopes that form into what can be called one big emotional and mental /mess/. The problem that is raised with Zia's suggestion... is to truly open his heart.<br /><br />The werewolf tilts his head when the girl asks him to continue, and he just shakes his head.
