Ah, Chocobos. The large yellow birds come in as much kinds as there are clouds in the sky. Some are adventuring, some are racers, and some simply like to spend their time playing in the fields. Some of them become pets, others carriage pullers or pack mules. They are friendly creatures that are smarter than most animals as well. Some are great travelling companions and develop strong bonds with their owners. Some people treat their chocobos like friends rather than tools.
You ever wanted to have your own Chocobo? It's hard to handle one in your home. The feeding, the training, it needs the leg work often too, so you cannot simply leave it inside.
This is where the Chocobo Ranch comes in! Now you can possess your own chocobo, and we handle all of the caretaking for you. You only need to come and say hi to your chocobo once in a while. Of course, you can always leave with your chocobo as well, if you need it for travelling or various chores, but it will always have a place here after you're done.
Here is all the information you need to have your own chocobo!
The Ranch
The Chocobo Ranch is owned by an old man that only does a managing job nowadays. He left the caretaking to his grandson and daughter, Billy and Chole, who are quite knowledgeable about chocobos. Billy takes care of the more hands-on work. He takes care of all of the feeding, cleaning of the stalls, and putting your chocobos outside so they can stretch their legs every day.
Chole meanwhile is in charge of training and bookeeping. She also is the one that makes sure the chocobos stay in good health, or nurse them when sick. She's also the one that takes care of the baby chocobos after their birth, as she finds them so cute.
Chocobos
In the stables, Choco Billy handles all the needs for your chocobos. Of course, outside of the daily menial work, Choco Billy needs to be told what you want to do with your chocobos. So here are all of the things you can do with your chocobos.

+Choco/New <Name> | With this, you start your life as a chocobo owner. You need to give it a name of course. We will pick a chocobo for you, and put it in an empty spot. |
+Choco/Name <Chocobo>=<New Name> | Allows you to rename a chocobo that you own. Chocobos sometimes like it when you give them a new name, one that fits their personality or abilities. There is a limit of 16 letters to it. |
+Choco/Remove <Chocobo> | Sends a chocobo out of your stable. Don't worry, we'll find it a new owner rapidly! |
+Choco/List | This shows all of your chocobos in a nice summary. |
+Chococard/Look <Chocobo> | When you get a new chocobo, a magical card is issued with all of its personal data. You can look at it anytime, even away from the ranch. |
+Chococard/Show <Chocobo>=<Name/All> | You can also show your card to <Name> or to everyone in the room using All. Make sure people want to see it before you use this command, be mindful! |
Feeding and Breeding
Once you get a new chocobo, wether we captured one or it just been born, it will be hungry. Feeding a chocobo increases its attritubes gradually. The hungrier it is, the more feed it will take at a single time. We handle the daily feeding, even if you are far away, but you should come back to feed it yourself once in a while too!
Feeding a chocobo increases its 4 main attributes, which are Run, Dash, Stamina and Endurance. Each green has different attributes that it can boost, and in different proportions as well. What? Which greens are better? Well all of them are pretty much equal, but concentrate on different attributes. You will just need to figure out which ones help what attribute on your own!
Rule | Description |
---|---|
+Choco/Feed <Chocobo>=<Green> | Feed the Chocobo a green. The greens are listed Below. |
+Choco/Checkup <Chocobo> | Choles makes a checkup on your Chocobo's health and attributes, to see how far away from its potential attributes it is at the moment. It lets you know if you still need to train it in a certain area more than the others. |

Breeding allows you to get a new chocobo, as a baby, and grow it up yourself. They are born unnamed, so you can give them the name you wish after moving them to the stables. If your stables are full, you can replace one of your previous chocobos with it, and the newborn will take the name of which is being replaced. The old chocobo are returned to the wilds, where it will make new friends, no need to worry about them!
Like feeding, you need to give them a nut to start the process. We will then find a suitable mate for your chocobo, and then magic happens! So so daddy says. A new chocobo is born to the world. Its also hungry, you might want to feed it! Note that you need a certain amount of time to be able to breed a newly caught chocobo, or a newly born one.
Breeding a chocobo takes the parent's attributes, and increase their maximum values. Unfortunately, the chocobo is still untrained, so the racing attributes will be lower than the parents. But since their potential is higher, you will gradually raise stronger chocobos!
Rule | Description |
---|---|
+Choco/Breed <Chocobo>=<Nut> | Breeds the specified chocobo with the given nut. The baby is placed in a temporary stable until its ready to be moved to the stables. |
+Choco/Move | Moves the newborn chocobo into an empty stable. If you have no stable free, you can use the next command instead. |
+Choco/Replace <Chocobo> | Moves the newborn chocobo to the stables, replacing the chocobo you had. It keeps the same name as the one replaced. |
+Choco/Release | Releases the newborn chocobo to the wilds. Sometimes the baby is not as strong as the parents, it's better to release them. |

Chocobos are natural racers, they love to run all over the fields when they can. They race each other for fun as well, so it was only natural that people starting to race their own chocobos against other people as well!
So chocobos and chocobo racing go together well!
Not like this thought.
Racing Circuit
Found in Serendipity, the Chocobo Racing Circuit is open to all people to race against other racing enthusiasts. Esther is the one to look up for when you want to register up for the races.
Races in the circuit are done between 6 racing birds, one of them being you. The other 5 racers are people that love to race and measure their chocobos against each other. There are bets going on in the back of course, which is why the races are divided into Classes. The higher the class, the faster the chocobos involved are. You can see the Class of your chocobo on your ChocoCard.
Your Class is automatically upgraded when your chocobo's feeding make its attribute high enough to cross in the next category of racers. Chole is the one that evaluates the potential, so that an even challenge is kept no matter how good your chocobo becomes. The Classes are in order : F - E - D - C - B - A - S - SS - SSS
The races are done in 3 laps of 3 legs each. Each leg after the first one, you are able to order your chocobo's speed, in %. See the Racing Information for more details.
These commands only work in the Circuit of course.
Rule | Description |
---|---|
+Choco/Race <Chocobo> | Starts a race with the named Chocobo. |
+Choco/Speed # | Enter your speed. The speed information is shown in the Speednotes box that appears. |
+Choco/Set Box | Toggles On and Off the speednote box reminder between legs. |
+Choco/Speednotes | If your Speednote box is turned off, you can always get a reminder of it using this command. |
+Choco/Gyshal | Each race, you have one Gyshal that you can give your chocobo. So once per race, you can give your chocobo a quick boost of 50% Stamina. |
Drag Racing
Drag Racing is the alternate way of racing, outside of the Chocobo Circuit. You can race just about anywhere in the world, but only against other people that join up the challenge, as its not organized like at the circuit.
Although the racing mechanics are the same, it's not strictly limited to 6 people, it needs at least 2 racers to start. There is also no laps, only legs, which can be chosen at the start of the race. The default amount of legs is 9, the same amount as a Circuit race.
Rule | Description |
---|---|
+ChocoDrag/New <Chocobo>=<Legs> | Initializes a new race, inviting people to join. You enter automatically with the specified chocobo. The amount of legs is optional, defaulting to 9. |
+ChocoDrag/Join <ID>=<Chocobo> | Joins in the race, answering the announcement made, using the specified chocobo. |
+ChocoDrag/Start | When everyone has joined the race, the iniator of the race can kick off the race using this. |
+ChocoDrag/Leave | Leave the race, or cancels it if you are the initiator. If midrace, you are given a loss automatically. |
+ChocoDrag/Speednotes | If your Speednote box is turned off, you can always get a reminder of it using this command. |
+ChocoDrag/Speed # | Enter your speed. The speed information is shown in the Speednotes box that appears. The leg starts as soon as everyone entered their speed. You can change your speed using the same command until everyone has done so. |
+ChocoDrag/Gyshal | Each race, you have one Gyshal that you can give your chocobo. So once per race, you can give your chocobo a quick boost of 50% Stamina. |
No matter if you are Drag Racing or in the Circuit, the same mechanics apply to your chocobo's behavior and attributes.
The speed you direct your chocobo each Leg determines how much Stamina will be used up or recovered. 100% Speed means that you go to the maximum speed without using any Stamina. Anything lower than 100% Speed will make your chocob recover stamina, up to a maximum of 100% Stamina of course.
Anything higher than 100% Speed will make your chocobo lose Stamina. If your chocobo falls to 0% Stamina between legs, it will see its Speed reduced to 50% until the end of the Leg. It will also recover Stamina during that time of course, but you will probably be left behind as well.
The best tip about racing is to control your stamina usage as much as possible, getting as close to 0% Stamina without going under, and going as fast as possible without going over 100% Stamina when recovering.
Racing Attributes
There are 4 main attributes that affects the race :
Attribute | Description |
---|---|
Run | Running speed. This attribute affects how fast you run at normal. 100% Speed = 100% Run. |
Dash | Dashing speed. It increases your running speed by how much over 100% Speed you are going at. 125% Speed = Run + 25% Dash. |
Stamina | How much Stamina your chocobo has. It affects how much and how fast it can Dash when you go over 100% Speed. |
Endurance | Affects the gain and loss of Stamina. The more Endurance your chocobo has, the more it will recover Stamina if under 100% Speed, and the less Stamina it will lose while Dashing. |
Chocobo Hunger
Chocobos get hungry as they race, which allows you to feed them more greens to increase their attributes. Chocobos get hungry by racing, it doesn't matter if they win or not, but winning seems to make them crave faster. You should always try your best to win!
Chocobo Colors
Yes, it is possible to get chocobos of different colors! But how to make them appear, that we're not sure.
There is one nut that doesn't seem to increase attributes at all when used, so we think it might be tied to usage of that nut. But also, it doesn't seem like they appear unless the chocobo havs reached a certain threshold in their maximum attributes.
So it only appears on babies that you bred yourself, it might take some time!
