Magic is a force that exists in all worlds, even if not everyone is aware of it, or can utilize it. Magic is mostly a neutral force that can be wielded in a variety of ways. While this force is usually embodied in different forms depending on the world, magic is still the force that makes it all run. When one uses magic, they use a method to tap into this force of energy.
There are many types of magic users, including your traditional mages/wizards as well as martial artists and fighters who utilize elemental abilities while fighting. Magic comes in many forms, usually aligned with the traditional elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Ice, Light, Dark, etc. An example of some common magic would be the ability to cast a fireball at an enemy, or using curative magic to speed the healing process.
Magic Methods
There are many methods attaining magic as well. In some worlds, natural magic only came to some of those born with this gift, such as the Black Mages from FF9, or the Sorceress from FF8. But often in those worlds, humans would find a way to reach into this dominion - such as Quasi-Magic, Materia, or even going so far as to Crystallize Espers. In this setting, the source of origin (series/game) defines whether or not someone is innately capable of magic or not. However, with enough resources, the difference between innate magical power and quasi-magic is negligible. But to meet the power of a true Sorcerer is neigh-impossible.
Sorcerers
Sorcerers are magic users who can use magical power to bend the laws of the world around them. Some examples of sorcery would be the ability to give life to inanimate objects, or creating things that are just pure impossibilities otherwise. This sort of magic can only be harnessed by a rare few people, and it is rarely used for good. Malificent is one of the most well-known Sorcerers, along with a man named Merlin. Often, for each sorcerer, there is a counterpart - but there where there are not, worlds often find themselves unbalanced towards darkness. Sorcerers are considered FC Concepts: See Restricted
The ability to perform magic beyond the normal realm of elemental magic does exist in some themes, usually in the form of certain magical scrolls or tomes that allow for some more unusual magic. Some may be combat, some non-combat. Any magic of this type must be approved by staff at application time, or through the use of +request.
