Business as usual...? |
Profile: Multi-billionaire genius inventor David Xanatos is the ultimate self-made man, having arranged for the seed money of his corporate empire to have been sent to his poor boyhood self from a thousand years in the past. This is only one of many examples of Xanatos' legendary schemes, which are patient, intricate, and infamous for having nothing but winning outcomes... for him. As charismatic as he is manipulative, Xanatos is ruthless and often amoral in his pursuit of power, but never sadistic or cruel; perhaps his most dangerous trait as an opponent is that he allows neither revenge nor conceit to blind his brilliance. He is, however, prone to obsession, and when his revival of the Wyvern Clan Gargoyles failed to secure their loyalty, he pursued a great many plans to coerce, trick or replace them with everything from robots to mutants to clones, in order to have gargoyles in his service. These days, however, his highest priority is securing immortality for himself and his beloved wife and son; accomplishing the rest of his goals is only a matter of time.

Background:
"What good are all the riches in the world if Fox and I can't enjoy them forever?"
David Xanatos was born a poor fisherman's son, but always knew that with his brains, he could be more. One day, he received a 10th century coin in the mail, invested its $20,000, and founded Xanatos Enterprises. Thus his career as a businessman began, and many billions of dollars later, it has yet to end. Xanatos himself was a brilliant inventor, and the technological corporation remained at the heart of his holdings, but he also acquired the genetics company Gen-U-Tech, the Scarab Corporation robotics firm, and the television franchise Pack Media Studios, among many, many other companies.
He was long driven to prove himself as a self-made man to his father, who seemed to resent David's success because of the mysterious origin of the coin that provided his seed money. The path to doing so was long and arduous, and involved a great many adventures along the way, most notable of which was reviving the Wyvern Clan from their long stone sleep by fulfilling a certain spell's breaking condition of Wyvern Castle being "above the clouds": on top of the tallest Manhattan skyscraper, in this particular case. He was thrilled to discover the legend had been true, but disappointed to find the gargoyles had no trust for humans and little enough love for him. Quickly enough they parted ways.
But the mighty Goliath wasn't through with Xanatos, resenting him for essentially banishing the Manhattan Clan from their ancestral castle, and Xanatos countered his interventions, in turn, with everything from the Steel Clan (robotic gargoyles) to Coldstone (Goliath's brother, resurrected from three dead gargoyles' remains) to mutants (including Derek Masa, brother of another longtime pain in his ass, Elisa Masa) to Thailog (a clone of Goliath). Eventually, however, it was time to move on, and after using Goliath and his former mate Demona to open the Phoenix Gate and go back in time, so that he could show his father how he'd sent himself the seed money for his corporation, he set his sights on greater things, like immortality for his family: Fox, his equally Machiavellian wife, and Alexander, their young son.
With the descent of Manhattan into darkness, Xanatos' time has been split between protecting and consolidating his resources (which includes, in his eyes, the people of Manhattan; he won't stand by when they're being threatened by Heartless, and his weaponry is doubtless instrumental in Manhattan's survival), gathering new ones across the many connected worlds, and searching for an immortality solution less twisted than MacBeth and Demona's. With so much magic now at his fingertips, surely there's a way. This doesn't leave much time for harrassing the Manhattan Clan, and in fact he is happy to let them help him defend Manhattan while he sets up his next moves in the chess game of the universe.
Personality:
"Nothing terrifies me, because nothing is beyond my ability to change."
It's hard to pidgonhole David Xanatos into any one category, which is how he likes it. He's addicted to power, certainly, but is attracted to the love of his life because she's the one thing he can't control. He is utterly pleasant and courteous to his enemies while he's busily manipulating them, in part because he essentially never takes anything personally... unless it threatens his family. He has his own code of ethics, after a fashion, both loyal and honorable in his own twisted way; certainly, he always pays his debts. Nor is he omnicidal in the manner of the bulk of the forces of Ruin -- he doesn't want to destroy the universe, he wants to enjoy it. That's not to say he won't work with them; he's even happy to let them think he's one of them, if it serves his purpose.
Until the descent of his world into darkness, Xanatos really had all the power he honestly wanted, but he really enjoyed gaining it, so as a hobby, he conspired to gain more in absurdly complex ways. Now, he needs even more power, in order to be strong enough to protect all of his holdings and loved ones from the ramped up threat of a newly criss-crossed dimension, and would do some pretty terrible things to get it. He is very, very patient, and endlessly resourceful, and whatever his goals may be, he always has multiple paths to them all laid out, with the closing of one door guaranteed to open another.
It's an open question whether Xanatos' quote above is arrogant or honest self-evaluation. His track record is pretty damn good so far, and he doesn't suffer conceit, even in himself; weaknesses are better recognized and eliminated, than denied. He is undeniably brilliant, quite possibly the scariest schemer in the Kingdom Hearts universe, and sadly has trouble relating to anyone on any levels other than manipulation and counter-manipulation.
Old age is not his last opponent, only the most important one to handle in a timely fashion.
Recent Events:
- Recently Xanatos sent out a call to arms across the Multi-Verse using the Ma Belle system. This all call, calls all forces of Good together to stand against the Forces of Ruin.
- Xanatos has been gathering allies, but not divulging to anybody whom they might be.
- He has been sending out feelers to the various Multi-Verse worlds and opening trade agreements and businesses.
- The Creation of Ma Belle, a subsidiary of Xanatos Enterprises, has recently come full active. This company sells, and maintains communication lines that let people speak to each other regardless of the dimension the two are in. These devices are trans dimensional, and the company is expanding opening and creating news communications towers as well as stores/maintenance shops.
