Awkward Boat is Awkward
Date of Scene: 13 December 2012
Location: Castle Oblivion
Synopsis: Part 4 of Hobo with a Shotgun. Awkward Boat conversations are Awkward.
Cast of Characters: Will Sherman, Riku
Tinyplot: Hobo With A Shotgun

Will Sherman has posed:
Will does not sleep...mostly because he's afraid of drifting off and then suddenly heartless. He figures if Riku stayed up and watched over things, he can do so while Riku gets some rest. He has not moved from his position except to stand and stretch out a bit, and then he sat back down, looking down into the water. Now that danger wasn't a issue, he drifted into his own thoughts. Questioning his own existance again.

It was horrible to have to do this, but...what choice did he have? He was just a seal...a container, a thing that just kept the world safe from Loki, but his person hood...was it even fair to call him that? Were his feelings real? Was the person called Will real?
Riku has posed:
Riku opens his eyes. He looks towards Will and there is a moment when 'And Suddenly Heartless' seems to have become a thing. He just stares at Will with the blank yellow eyed stare of all those watching, hungry eyes before something kicks over in his head.

Riku returns to actual consciousness and blinks in confusion to be here, sprawled very uncomfortably against the boat. A hand reaches out for-- something but he quickly drops it to his side. "It figures." he yawns, leaning against the side of the boat. "I haven't slept that well for months." he doesn't sound very grateful about it. It comes off as more agitated and disturbed. When he's reasonably sure that the voice is nowhere near them and that he's still reasonably himself, Riku looks into the distant ocean as the Boat continues to pull ahead towards some other destination, tapping the fingers of one hand against the rim of the boat as he looks back towards WIll.

"I guess it's a moot point to ask how long I've been out?"
Will Sherman has posed:
"Days...weeks...years? I don't know...time is kinda weird here I think..." Will says, leaning from his position and looking at Riku, "I dare say you needed it." he responds to his lack of sleep comment, Will slowly looks down again, back at the water, listlessly. "Also, sorry for forcing you to push yourself that hard...but you came through...especially everything w-...you saw there." looking back up for a moment.

"If you're hungry, I managed to save something." he says, pulling out a actual candy bar. It's more of an energy bar, "I started keeping these on me when I started leaving Manhattan. Never knew when Mercade was going to lead us into a bad situation...one that my luck couldn't get us out. The Boss used to ride me hard when I relied on it too much, and I guess it's a good thing he did." he says, tossing it to Riku. "Go ahead, I'll last for a while yet. I don't think I could starve anyway, given what we've learned." he says, sighing again.
Riku has posed:
Riku rubs the bridge of his nose and takes the proferred energy bar. He takes a small bite, and although this place, this time, whatever it is-- it gives him some small comfort to do something even marginally normal. "Oatmeal." he returns in response to some internal thought.

"My mom. She used to pack these oatmeal bars that she made. Sometimes we'd be out all day.." he takes his head, looking at the food before taking another small bite. "Yes. I do have good memories. It's just-- been getting harder to find them. Probably as consequence to who and.. what I am."

Riku makes a gesture as he leans back against the bridge, waving the whole things away. He continues to tap his fingers against the edge of the boat until the nature of the sound changes. He inspects the short claws tipping his fingers and idly inspects his other hand. Same thing. "Huh." he doesn't seem surprised and or that worried. He drew in too much darkness in a place that was all darkness. Riku has well and truely expended his yearly allowance of freaking out.

"I've heard of this before.. I think." Riku furrows his brow. "I thought Mercade was the head of the TDA."
Will Sherman has posed:
Will looks up as Riku reflects, Will looks tired, but he listens.

"Oh..." he says to Riku's rememberance. "I sometimes forget that...you're so young. It's your maturity man, well...maybe not certain choices, but you do pretty much act fairly mature compared to a lot of other kids your age I know." he says...and looks back at Riku who is inspecting...

His eyes look, trying to find the strings or what was causing the new addition. If nothing else to confirm what he suspected.

Then Riku asks... "The Boss was the founder of the Original office. It wasn't called the Twilight Detective Agency back then. The Boss was a man who solved crimes with a mask, a cape, a Tophat, and his sheer logical skill. He was a kind man, very dedicated to his job...perhaps a bit too dedicated sometimes. I met him on April twenty Second, in a graveyard. He was investigating a strange case about a man similar looking to a relitive visiting their great grandmother's grave. He'd got paid for it, and we hit it off quite well. After that, the work actually got weirder...for him anyway. I tagged along because I...I was actually drawn in by his sense of justice. He wanted to keep people safe, at any cost to himself."
Riku has posed:
Darkness is interwoven with Riku's threads in a very personal manner as well as the blinding anti-sun of the darkness that is not his own, but that is not immediately to fault. It seems-- shrouded somehow, possibly in regards to what Riku said about the voice not being able to find him while they were on it.

Riku's darkness is greater than before and although he seems to be more adept at handling it, the very nature of this place is starting to seep into him.

In a place where time is strange, it seems he is on a silent countdown. Riku snorts faintly. "Keep people safe, at any cost." but just shakes his head and negates whatever else he was going to say. "So that's what you were looking at. The hat. Maybe we should determine who goes crazy next time in advance. If we both go at the same time, it'll be bad." Riku smirks tiredly at Will, dropping his eyes to the bottom surface of the boat.
Will Sherman has posed:
"I did not say at any cost. I said at any cost to himself. He worked himself to death...he shielded the inncent with his body..." Will says, calmly, "However, he eventually grew too old to continue. He touched many people...all of those in the TDA building, except Deidra, had met and were touched by that man." Will says, slowly, trying to make the point.

"We have to leave here soon, Riku. I fear for you if we don't, and sense you went crazy last time, I'll do the curtosy of going crazy first." Will manages to quip back, with a faint smile.

"And yes...yes I was. I thought maybe I failed him...no, I did. I failed him...I failed Mercade.." Will starts to cry, tears running down his face, "I don't even know why I am sad...it's not like I'm real."
Riku has posed:
"And we have a volunteer.." Riku grumbles to himself, peering over the side of the dark water. There are shapes moving there. Subtle hues of shadow and that undefined light that he saw a pale echo of on an artist's canvas.

Riku rubs his face (carefully) with one hand, rubbing at his nose and eye with two knuckles and pretending very hard not to be now extremely uncomfortable. Riku closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. Take your own damn advice for once, Riku. Listen to yourself for once.

He knows the light is down there. He has seen it. It is protecting him from simply transforming into whatever heartless he would be without it. Yet it's difficult-- and painful-- and it's always been easier for others to do the work for him. To be the conscience. To be the one telling him his future, instead of him making it for himself. Riku opens his eyes slowly, brow furrowing at Will.

What would-? No. What would /I/ say. Stop begging after everyone else. "Will... Will. There's a question I have have asked myself every time since I've met you. And you're not going to like it, but I don't care. You're going to hear this. Because--" he looks at boat and spreads his arms in exasperation. "Because /boat/."
Will Sherman has posed:
Will doesn't pull his head up, he looks down at the water as Riku gets...talkitive suddenly. He instead, rubs at his eyes, trying to clear his eyes for once, in case the next thing he needs to do is push Riku off the boat. Or at least, punch him excessively hard. Damn it, Riku, he's trying to have an exetensial crisis here...

It was bad enough he spent yesterday boosting your confidence!

"...Alright. Fine, say it."
Riku has posed:
Riku returns the favor with scorn, as is the fate of all do gooders who attempt to help Riku with problems he made for himself. So much Scorn. Riku continues. "I had the wrong idea. I thought you were-- something else. Someone else." he snorts faintly.

"That was a mistake. I should have stayed with what I had before. In the beginning, when I met you-- I would always think. 'Is this guy for REAL?' --and now we know the answer. No. You're just Will Sherman. " and he says this with absolute blank conviction, neither teasing nor mocking except in the scornful lead in. He shrugs, as if Will Sherman should already know this already. He actually believes what he's saying-- Which may possibly be even worse.
Will Sherman has posed:
Will looks at Riku for a long long time. There is an ackward silence....

Then slowly, Will reaches his hand into the water, and splashes Riku so hard.

"You are the worst person." Will says, "I should throw you out of the boat for that pun." Will says, grumpy, but...yeah, he's trying to fight the smile.

"Seriously, I am having a crisis of self, and you make a bad pun! Argh!" he says, "I am Fin-ished with this!"
Riku has posed:
Riku is soaked. He spits water out and coughs. He reaches over, splashing a deluge of water at Will in reaction to the complete soaking. "I'm not exactly keen on you ogling my memories either, Will!"

The teenager smiles, although it saddens a little as he remembers. "You know.." he says in a quieter voice after some time has past. "If Senior Psychopath wasn't out there.. maybe I could have stayed. This place-- it isn't really so scary, seeing it again."
Will Sherman has posed:
Will's smile breaks out, even as the water smashes down over him, his hat wet. He takes it off, and rings it out.

"You wanted to leave...but there is no place like home right?" he says, to Riku, "It's not completely, gone Riku, we can bring it back." he says, "Like Manhattan...we c...no we WILL bring it back." he says, suddenly determined, "Maybe..." he says, quietly.

"As for that guy...man screw him. We'll get you out of here...maybe.." he pauses.. "I think we might know a guy who can help...but lets focus on getting out first." he says, standing, and offering Riku a hand.
Riku has posed:
Riku looks at Will, and somewhere there is another rendition of the awkward silence music as he stares at the hobo king.

He looks up and around and-- pretty much anywhere but AT him for a long moment before allowing himself to be helped up. "That.. is a lot of maybes. Let's ..take them a few at a time."
Will Sherman has posed:
"...Think there are any fish here?" he asks, looking down at the water. "I really could use a snack." he mutters finally. "And yeah...yeah. I know." He agrees. Finally, sitting down, he thinks. "Okay..so, ackwardness asside. What now..?"
Riku has posed:
Riku listens, and nods to himself as he summons a black pole into his hand. "Now-- " and this is also said in a completely dead pan manner as he digs out something from his pocket. It's a glimmering coin, one of the ones from the Mistress of Games.

"--we snipe at eachother while we fail to fish." He flips the coin over towards Will and goes looking for something that can be used as line.
Will Sherman has posed:
Will pulls off a shoe, and starts pulling the string out. He does so with the other shoe, and looks at the coin after handing both strings over to Riku and slips the shoes back on. The coin...oddly, doesn't seem any different as he holds it.

But every time he flips it...it comes up heads. Every. Single. Time.

"..I dunno, I rather like the not sniping thing. Maybe a story. One that's uplifting for once."
Riku has posed:
Riku smiles, and it doesn't feel like he's going to break his face doing so. Or that Will Sherman is going to try to do it for him.

"Ah. Nobody likes a happy ending. Don't you know that, Will?" he shakes his head, tying line and coin to pole. (Don't ask. It's Inventory- Fu) -- "But I have a million stupid and embarrassing stories. Sora.." he hmms. "No. He's too easy of a target. So is Reize." he handwobbles as if to say they are pretty much Identical in the Stupid and Embarrasing Story department.

"So, instead I'll make fun of myself." he grins. "You quickly develop a thick skin if it means your best friend gets beaten up for defending you. Let me tell you a tale of the Shard Seekers-- and how their co-leader hides his common sense at the bottom of a tankard... and still manages to be the height of 'Culture."
Will Sherman has posed:
"Really...I dunno." Will says, "Tragedy and happyness go hand in hand I think." he considers, and then looks at Riku, "Their Co-leader? I don't think I met him. Just Reize...and a few of the girls." he rolls his eyes, "Seriously. That dude has sucker written all over him." he says, and lays his head on his hand listening to Riku.

"Alright, so he's a drunk and still the hight of Culture. God I have to hear this.."
Riku has posed:
"That's the funny part." Riku smirks. "See-- everybody is looking at the 'Sucker' printed on his forehead, they don't see the punch until it's too late." He shrugs, and then tells Will a debauched and ridiculous tale (perhaps more than a little exaggerated, as all storytellers teld towards) about Reize and Riku getting back at Ivo by manipulating his knee-jerk reaction to beautiful women-- and his tendancy to get SO FAR into his cups, that his selection criteria for this concept of 'beautiful women' drops into dangerous territory. He then proceeds to sweet talk said dangerous territory for quite some time.

"I've been told I look like a girl my whole life." Riku says in an amused aside. "It's funny how many people think I would give a damn about what they think. What's more hilarious about this story is I had the whole things recorded and left at the Shard Seeker headquarters. They didn't know what to make of it, which, in my eyes-- is even more funny."
Will Sherman has posed:
Will just stares...

"Geeze." He says, shaking his head. "Oh my god, that is...hilarious and awful at the same time. Hilarawful." he says, making up a word right there.

t"You're awful for doing it! They are awful for watcing it! Everything is bad." Will says, trying not to laugh in abject sheer hilarity of it all. He fails, horribly at it.

He needs this laugh.
