Cast of Characters: | Will Sherman, Morrighan Alazne |
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will came back to the offices late last night, plopped asleep somewhere, and was basicly out till an hour ago. Which then, he sat up, blinked a few times, and realized he was hungry as all get out. So grabbing some supplies from downstairs and bringing them up to the kitchen upstairs, he starts throwing stuff into a bowl and making some sort of...strange bowl of food. Everything goes in, nothing is left sacred. Finally, he mixes the CRAP out of the bowl, and then puts it into the frying pan, which...actually takes more than one go, because there is so much in the bowl. The smell that comes from the kitchen, despite what is going INTO the frying pan...is actually somehow oddly pleasent. It's hard to figure out HOW or WHY...or why in gods name the combinations of foods going in are actually smelling this way...
However after a bit, he prepares two bowls, and sits down in the living area, putting one near him and starts eating from the other. Like he's expecting company or something...perhaps Will can see the future, or perhaps he wants seconds and doesn't want to get up for it!
But there is still more in the kitchen, warming on the stove. Will himself turns the TV on, nothing earth shattering...that's good, these things always seem to happen when he's sleeping..
- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
As Will finished creating his unholy concoction, Morrighan was descending from the third floor, likely from that one room she was still using at the moment. She wasn't particularly hungry, but that smell drew her curiosity. She could pick out quite a number of things from the scent and many of them caused her to raise an eyebrow in curiosity. "Now just who or what in god's name is..."
Trailing off from whatever she was murmuring, Morrighan comes to a stop by the entrance of the living area, within plain sight as she looks in to see who was there. Upon spotting Will, she narrowed her eyes just a tad. "Oh. So it was you now." The discovery did not surprise her at all. She couldn't think of anyone else in this agency that would do something like this...
"...I would ask why, but somehow, I imagine that I do not want to know the answer."
- Will Sherman has posed:
"When you live on the streets you learn to make do with what you got at hand. Sometimes you can't get the right ingredients...sometimes you have to experiment to make things work." Will eats a bite of the concoction, and smiles up at Morrighan. "Got some for you, I guess." he says, pushing the bowl towards her and continues to at. "There is even a seat over there so I don't offend your fair sense of smell." he says, teasing her a bit, but actually not trying to be malicious.
"So what's up? I see you're still here despite being able to leave. Which, the boss says is cool, so you know, that's a thing. I'm just curious, I mean...what about your home? Aren't they worried about you? You seemed pretty important there." Will asks...which is odd, he's just talking normally, like she was just another person, and not someone who aided in the destruction of his world.
- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
This was just strange. Here he was, talking to her as if she hadn't done a plethora of terrible things to him and other people. Morrighan's initial impulse was to be suspicious. Maybe he was putting on an act and waiting for some opportune moment to....do something. But that didn't seem to be the case. Ugh, she was used to people being angry and standoffish. Not....nice! "......" Well, he hadn't insulted her yet. So she stepped further into the living area, taking a seat by him.
The bowl went untouched for the moment as Morrighan considered his question. There was little reason not to answer, so she did. "Home, you ask? I do not have a home." The dark elf spoke evenly, watching the TV as she spoke. "Unless you speak of Baron. In which case, they are not. What I had there was simply a working relationship. One which seems to have been brought to an end by their own hand."
A shake of the head and then she explained a bit more. "They are hardly worried for my well being. In fact, they quite easily denied any involvement with my actions or me as a whole. Essentially, I no longer work for them." Morrighan shrugged at that, not looking broken up about the matter at all. "Just as well. I held no love for the nation anyhow. And I certainly do not hail from that world, so their affairs are of no concern to me."
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will listens, eating as he frowns a little.
"No home? You mean no place to return to? Was it consumed?" he looks terribly sad by this...he knows what it is like to lose a home. He continues eating as she explains about Baron, "Sounds...sadly about right. They use you, until you have no worth to give, and then throw you away to save face? I know the type, people like that know little about the connections between people, and will often fall under their own weight after an abused person finally has enough of it...and leads a group agains it." he says. Revolutions were..not uncomon.
"And you know, it's not a crime to let it out. To say how you really feel...I find it's better for you in the long run..oh man do I." he says, chuckling, "Bottling it up only leads to too much being kept in...and MAN the explosion after wards is...not good. I think you remember when it happened to me."
"Of course, my situation was...uh...very different. But that's a different story, yeah? This isn't about me, so...what about you?"
- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
"Technically, I suppose that it was consumed." But really, she had no idea where she was really from. But that was getting too complicated. "Indeed though. Those types of people run nations with their ill gotten power, using those beneath them until they give out..." She was right in the thick of it for a long time throughout her life. She was no stranger of the machinations of those with power at the top.
But that was something she loathed to think of.
"Let it out, you say?" Morrighan asked then, glancing at Will and away from the TV. "...How am I supposed to 'let it out'? I am afraid that I do not understand..." But she did see what happened to him. Oh yes, she was right there when it happened. All while Manhattan was falling. That seemed like so long ago now.
The elf mage shook her head then, dismissing the subject and moving along. "My situation? ...I am not sure what you mean." She glanced back at the TV then. Taking in the boring news reports with only a faint interest, if any at all. "What am I supposed to do now anyhow?"
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will was surprised she was even...talking. Which is a very BIG step, to that, he smiles, but listens.
"Okay, baby steps. I mean...okay, you said that you didn't have a home, but was that like you never had one? Or that it is gone?" he says, "I mean...I look a..okay, maybe I should explain this. I see...things more than normal. You saw when I struck at you, strings appeared? Tied to you and tied to me? Well...I see those things. Everyone has strings...strings of fate, strings of connections. I can't stop seeing them, it's what I was created with...but I can see yours, you...really don't have many." he finishes.
He pauses...thinking about what to say next, "Let me ask you something...a bit more personal. How old are you? I ask this not because I am a jerk, but because I met a few elves...you guys live longer than humans. Sorry if this is a bit too personal, but I am trying to understand you. You don't seem like you are completely rotten, because of how you responded to Max...and why Mercade seems willing to go to bat."

- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
Morrighan paused to consider the questions raised to her. Crossing her arms, she closed her eyes in thought for several moments before finally responding. "No, I have never had what one might call a 'home'." Elfheim barely counted. She didn't have her parents and everyone, barring two people hated her. Hearing Will explain about what he called 'strings of fate' however caused her to turn to look at him. It didn't make complete sense, but...she had an idea.
"So essentially, you can see these strings coming from people, and you can manipulate them? Is that it?" So he had the ability to perceive something on a level different from others. An interesting ability to be sure, but...he said that she didn't have many strings herself. The revelation caused Morrighan to chuckle somewhat, shaking her head at the notion.
"I see. That is...accurate, I suppose." Accurate for one who went through life never making meaningful ties with other people. Never letting anyone get truly close enough to constitute something of any real significance. Once the question of her age was brought up, Morrighan frowned at him. "It is incredibly rude to ask a lady her age, especially an elf." Because lord knew that their ages could vary wildly despite their appearances.
But after a moment of thought, she decided to answer. What had she to lose anyhow? "...I stopped counting at four hundred eighty nine and have lost count since. I can no longer tell you how 'old' I actually may be now." They wanted to understand her? The thought made her scoff. Mentally at least. Why bother wasting the time?
"And I have already told you that my assistance to your friend was merely a debt. Nothing more."
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will nods...
"I'm sorry to hear that Morrighan. Home is important. Home always changes, but it is important." he says, "Well...I am three hundred and twelve this year." he comments, admitting his age for her, "Yes, you heard me, three hundred. You're perhaps a bit older than me, but...I think the feeling is the same. The fear of not growing attached to people, because to us people can be transient...they come and go, you have to watch them grow old and die...to leave the world without you...Yeah." Will shrugs, "I used to feel the same...I used to be afraid of making connections with others, but then I discovered that even though they go away, they never leave you. As long as you remember them...you keep them in your heart, you are never really and truly alone."
"To answer your questions...yes and no. I can increase or descrease the strings...in theory I can sever them, but such things always regrow, because my manipulation of them is only temporarily...but I can see them, not perfectly. It's not a perfect thing, but neither are relationships, yeah?"
"Alright, you can say that...and I won't question it. However, that's how friends work Morrighan. We help each other, we try and achieve something that we can't do alone...something greater than ourselves." He says, and continues to eat, "Help me understand why then, why you're not willing to put your faith in others?"
- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
That was partly the reason why she refused to connect with people. They were always gone before it had even begun. Especially humans. They were the worst perpetrators of this. The revelation of Will's actual age however caused Morrighan to pause and stare at the man...boy...person in question with a mildly incredulous expression. Now it was not that surprising, considering that she herself was an example of this, but...well, he looked entirely human to her.
"I see...well, I suppose that explains some things now." It didn't take much time for her to accept and get past it. That was a minor detail in the grand scheme of things anyhow. "In my heart..." Hah. Did she even have a heart? Part of her wanted to laugh. It was a funny thought. Of course she had a heart, but the state of it...
A sigh is given then and the dark elf looked away, resting her hands in her lap at his last question. "You wish to know why I do not place my faith in others?" She asked rhetorically, pausing for a moment before answering. "Because people cannot be trusted. It does not matter how much you rely on someone, or how much you believe in someone, they will use you and then fail to live up the very goals and ideals they themselves set forth. Promises will be made, and then broken without a second glance. People will pretend to care and be considerate, but at the end of the day, they are after something. Be it immediate or long term. Any form of 'goodwill' is just a ruse meant to fool people into lowering their defenses so that one may get what they want."
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will's eyes don't lie...it's not apparent at first, but she can see it. The way he looks, the way he is acting now...someone who lives years acts and just has a quality...
"It is easier to tell yourself a lie than to face the truth." Will says, "From personal experience, Morrighan, and not just from my soapbox. I watched my first family die, I was afraid of getting close to others...the loneliness got to me...the feeling of being detatched." he says, recounting his first century, "I started to become jaded and bitter...wondering why I had to be left all alone...why people took advantage of me, or tried to. I saw the very bottom of human depravity. Saw many good people die because of human stupidity, ignorance, or greed. I told myself everyone was like that, that nobody could be trusted."
"Then I met someone very special to me, someone who proved that not everyone is like that. She showed me people who struggled, not for themselves, but to make a better future for those around them...for their children to grow." He says, "Look out that window now, Morrighan...go out there, go find the Tents, the makeshift houses of those who survived Manhattan. Sure, you will find people that act like what you say...but you will find a sense of community there. People who help each other...who survive against the odds."
"If you really believe that, after everything we've shown you, then it is a perfect little lie. You don't have anything we want, Morrighan. We have a healer, we have a snooty girl who looks down on other people (Max)," he says, that with a grin, "We have a old person. We don't WANT anything from you, except maybe to be happy."
"That is the right of all people, no matter who they are...to be happy and free. Don't you think?" He continues, "I can't make you believe me, but I know how you feel...I was there once. I had people connect to me...to show me there was something else out there I could live for."
- Morrighan Alazne has posed:
"......" His story sounded familiar. Except that it took place in a different world. A different age. A different time. The only difference between the two of them now was that...he found his solace. He found something to hold onto. Something to change his beliefs for the better. She hadn't. For lack of trying or not, who could tell?
Looking out the window then, she couldn't actually /see/ what he was talking about, but his point was made quite clear. Go and see what those people she hurt have been up to. How they are surviving despite the loss of their world. How they haven't given up. "You want me to be happy? ...But I have no idea /how/." It probably sounded like a joke, but the look in her eyes and her tone of voice suggested that it certainly was not.
Shaking her head then, Morrighan stood up from where she sat and smoothed out her dress. "...I received a letter yesterday." She spoke in a low tone. "I am not sure whether or not you know of the Church of Glabados, but they want to meet with me for some purpose or another." Turning away at that, she began to take a few steps away. "It may be some sort of trap, or it may be some sort of offer. Regardless of which it may be, I have stayed here long enough." She wasn't even sure why she was telling him this. But...perhaps it was better than just walking out without a word now.
"I will be leaving tomorrow." The dark elf said as she reached the entrance way, resting a hand against the frame. "...I suppose that we will see whether or not I am capable of being happy with time." She sorely doubted the notion. But it was perhaps nice to think that she could. Maybe one day...
"...And thank you." With that said, Morrighan disappeared as she walked off towards the stairs, heading back up.
- Will Sherman has posed:
Will listens as she starts to turn away and walk back up.
"I can't stop you. But...well, I hope you find what you are looking for and can be happy." Will says finally, as she walked up. Finally he lays back and puts the bowl on the table. It brought back memories...bad and good. He can't tell her how to live, she has to find that for herself, no matter how hard you try, forcing your help causes the opposite of what you want to have happened.
"Maybe the church rat will know how to help."
