"Chita! We know you did it! Now apologize for it before you are punished worse!" claims a slightly thick, angry-sounding matron Viera, staring down at a young male Viera who is still not old enough to be called a 'young man', simply a child.

"But I did not do that! I would never attack a Dream Ha--AAH!" CRACK, the older Viera reached out and slapped the child across the tips of his long ears with a hand, "Liar! That hare was beaten! You had a stick and you were standing next to it when we caught you! You killed it!"

Most cultures wouldn't think much ill about an animal being killed, perhaps even take it and prepare it to eat. However, Viera were one with the woods, and even things in youth weren't accepted the way they would be elsewhere. And despite that, despite the tears in the boys eyes and the protests that he only shooed the hare out of the bushes so the others could chase it, and that they did it, he got hit again across the ears.

"I have never seen such a liar in all my days. What a poor example of a Viera, and a male at that. You are a shame to your kin and the woods which you were born to, Chita. You cannot even apologize to the spirit of the hare you killed so mercilessly."

Evja sat on the floor in Mercade Alexanders office in the Twilight Detective Agency's floor of the bar in Traverse Town, curled up a bit with her back to the wall, arms pulled tight around her legs, face pressed to her knees. Lost in thoughts about what to do. None believed her. She was accused of being a horrible liar, that all she's ever done in regards to the shards was so she could be the hero, or that she is simply lying altogether and is putting on an act. That she feels no shame for what she did. That her bargain was so much worse than anyone elses because she 'didn't feel sorry'.

'No...' Evja thought, 'I know just how much wrong I caused, even if I had no choice in it. I could not disobey Hades, no matter how much they claim I am lying when I say such. But if I apolozie for it... if I seek redemption, then I would be lying." Tears started to form in the Viera's eyes again. She didn't want to lie, no... it was wrong, and she wouldn't lie, no matter what.

Back in his home, in his little house in the trees, Chita read from a book, a story about a clan, about an adventure. It was times like this he could escape the other Viera. Times where he didn't have to worry about anything, he could just read. Even if he'd read this book a thousand times over likely in the years he has had it, it never got old. Tales of valor, of bravery... of adventure, intrigue... A life beyond the walls of the village in which he lived.

"Bad young receive no dinner. Stay in your room, Chita." called the voice of the Viera who was caring for him, the Matron of the males in the village. Whimpering a bit, Chita wandered over to a corner and pulled out a carrot he had stolen away from outside the village when he snuck out on the previous day. At least he would have something to eat while he read.

"Once upon a time, there was..."

"...a clan by the name of Leaf." Evja mumbled to herself, 'reading' the story she knew by heart to pass the time. Even as she sat all alone in this office, residual injuries from the previous day covering her from ears to toes, alone, hungry and most of all... Wishing she could just go, go somewhere that others did not accuse her of things she didn't do, or expect her to apologize for them either. Where she wasn't expected to lie, where she could lead a life that was good, and just, and try to bring the worlds back to how they should be and get rid of the darkness. "So, Chita..." came a soft mutter amidst the story a few minutes later. "Are you going to run away again? Take on a new name? Abandon everyone who ever cared for you or hurt you and find a new family to live freely with?" The thought of abandoning the Judges, abandoning the new family she had after having to turn in his past clan... it made her feel physically ill. She was a good person, an Upstanding citizen. Someone who went out of their way to help others, to do the right thing... to try and save the worlds. Chita could not flee again. There was nowhere left to run to. Picking a new name would not save her, or the worlds, from the Darkness.

"Hades... why did you betray me. I trusted you, as a god of such a vast domain. Even if you were not of my world, I... why did you have to ask me to kill a man. And my reward is to rot here and be treated as a criminal." Yet one more person, or being, on the list of those whom she could no longer trust. And in the self-pitying and anger at the world...

A child laughed softly, wondering suddenly why they wanted a hug so badly. Just to have anyone hug them and say everything would be alright. To make the pain go away.
