Portals
Portals are the main way to get around on the grid (that is - between worlds). The portals hold the important task of connecting the worlds and transforming the things about the travelers so that they fit better into the new world when they arrive. This usually is a basic change in clothing, changing Munny into Dollars in Manhattan, or even sometimes a transformation of one's form to reflect a world better - such as in Halloween Town. However, they will never give abilities you did not have before or take any away for that matter. The only exception is a world where it is 'required' to do so for one's survival. Like being turned into a sea-creature for Atlantica world. However, none such applicable worlds exist on the grid at this time.
Corridors of Darkness
The Corridors of Darkness are pathways that offer shadowy links between the worlds. They are unpredictable and dangerous, as they are often used by lesser Heartless. These portals are not to be taken lightly, as there are rumors that traversing the darkness between can corrupt the hearts of those who pass through unwarily. This type of portal can appear and disappear without warning, seeming as random and chaotic as the darkness they embody.
Shadow Lords and a rare few with hearts dark enough to wrest control over these element can summon up these portals at will. Though they are no combat technique, they offer a way of arriving and departing a location whenever the individual desires it so. It's rare to be able to follow someone through their own portal, making them a useful means of escape. However, these portals can only be created to someplace that the user has been.
Limitations:
- Corridors of Darkness cannot be used for line-of-sight teleportation.
- Corridors of Darkness cannot be summoned by someone who is bound, unconscious, or otherwise incapacitated. Please note, that while a villain may be defeated in the combat system, it is up to the usual role-play/consent to handle if they are still 'capable' of summoning a portal.
- Corridors of Darkness remain open for a short time after someone passes through, meaning that they can be followed. It is, however, a dangerous thing to do so, as a follower has no idea where the portal will go, or what awaits them on the other side.
Shadow Passages
A more stable means of traveling between the worlds was created through the powerful sorcery of Malificent. She has managed to create Shadow Passages, which are trans-dimensional pathways which now connect many a world. Unlike the Corridors of Darkness, these passages never move or close. They offer a direct route between the worlds and a way for the Heartless to gain a foothold even in the most reclusive of worlds. However, these hallways do not have the corrupting energy that makes the Corridors of Darkness so dangerous.
These Shadow Passages are the most common way that characters can move between the Worlds of Final Kingdom. The Heartless and their masters often make use of these passages, but so do the heroes who hope to stand against them. Certainly, Malificent never intended on these passages as a way for people to escape their worlds and seek out help, but now that they are in place, there seems to be no way of reversing them. For good, evil, and all those in between, the Shadow Passages are the most common means of moving between worlds.
