Night was peaceful upon the holy slopes of Mount Bur-Omisace. The Kiltia preferred it that way, as the quiet lent itself to the reflection, introspection, and study that were a core part of the religious order. Ma'Kleou preferred it tha way. It allowed him to focus on the important things. Sometimes, that was researching in the ancient vaults of the Kiltia. Other times, it is tending to the wounded who come seeking refuge from the wars that wrack this World of Ruin.

Tonight, he stares through a telescope in an observatory upon the peaks, watching the night sky. He scribbles upon parchment with his other hand in a flowing script.

"You look troubled, Ma'Kleou." A robed Hume approaches, bearing the vestments of a common Kiltia member.

ANOTHER PLACE, FAR AWAY FROM HERE

"So you're leaving to find the book?"

"We don't have a choice, do we? If we don't get it, there's no way for us to get help."

"And then we're all doomed. Well then, Have fun!

 AT THE OBSERVATORY

The Nu Mou turns to look at the man. "Kardin. Take a look at this." He steps back and gestures to the lens of the telescope.

The man approaches, looking through the lens and taking care not to disturb the orientation of the device. He frowns. "I confess, astronomy is not my specialty, Ma'Kleou. What am I seeing here?"

The Nu Mou adjusts the telescope slightly, and gestures again. "Most of the stars in the sky are fairly stable entities. They remain bright and simple to read. Sailors navigate by them as they are fixed points in the world we live in. I've adjusted to show you a typical star."

The man looks again, and sees a bright pinprick, steady and brilliant amidst the endless void of space. "I see."

ANOTHER PLACE, FAR AWAY FROM HERE

"Let go! This is mine! You'll ruin everything!"

"I'm sorry, but you leave me no choice! It's the only chance we have!"

"Stop, in the name of the Law!"

 AT THE OBSERVATORY

Ma'Kleou then moves the telescope back, adjusting it carefully. "Now look back at this one. Observe the dissipation of the corona. See how it changes, sometimes dramatically. It is dimming. Dissolving." The star itself was surrounded by tiny flecks, as if stardust was being laid out on a black velvet canvas. At times, the light with dim wildly before it returns.

Kardin shakes his head. "This is definately a cause for concern. But what could it mean?"

Ma'Kleou sighs, and turns to the night sky. "It is a terrible omen. Something is about to happen."

ANOTHER PLACE, FAR AWAY FROM HERE

"There's no time! Go!"

"What about you?"

"I'll be fine. Just bring help! Stick to the plan! Or don't, I love surprises."

 AT THE OBSERVATORY

Ma'Kleou continues. "Do you recall the legends of the shooting star, Kardin? Some say that they are signs of ill omen, while others consider them to bring wishes. Maybe this will be something of both."
