Press the switch, release the sand, press another switch, drain the sand. Climb a root, climb a vine, climb some roots that have grown into the shape of a ladder. Avoid the sand pit, fall into a sand pit, find a scorpion in the sand pit and punch it so hard its head caves in in one go. Actually, punch a lot of insects so hard they cave in with one blow. Was Shiki Misaki always this good at swatting bugs?

She'd heard something terrible had driven some of the Shard Seekers to Cleyra, so interest in their wellbeing and a desire to meet more of Faruja's kin had sent her there. Things had been bad from the word go- J-Popguins are not typical desert residents. What the Noise were doing in the middle of the Bare Desert, she didn't know, but she couldn't dwell on it for long. She didn't stick around fighting them.

Unfortunately, to get to Cleyra proper, she had to solve the assorted puzzles and brave the various monsters inhabiting its trunk. At least, she thought breezily, they didn't really seem to be all that hard to fight, as she made her way through the innards of the tree.

That's when she found the Zuu's nest.

The size of a small bus and with a correspondingly large place to squat in, the Zuu was the third biggest monster she'd ever seen. It also looked ridiculous, with its long, flamingo-like neck and ridiculously lanky body. Shiki and Mr. Mew were prepared for a fight, the girl even pulling out one of her spears.

Then the Zuu snapped her up in its beak and swallowed her in a single swift movement.

Mr. Mew stood there for a moment, kind of dumbfounded, and looking at the dropped spear. The Zuu squawked and flapped back to its nest to sit back down from having been disturbed, and it sat there for a couple minutes, quite still and sedate.

Mr. Mew was starting to get genuinely worried.

Fortunately, he didn't need to. The Zuu made an odd, strangled squawk as its entire body, which had been freezing solid from the inside out, shattered into huge pieces of ice, which crashed to the floor and tumbled down into the depths of the trunk.

Gasping for air, Shiki Misaki stood up, took a step forward, walked, picked Mr. Mew up, and kept on walking.

"I'm getting tired of that happening, you know that, right?" she said to him.
