As evening begins to fall on Fluorgis, Shiki Misaki is racing out of the bar the Shard Seekers were having their first meeting in. Reize, having bumbled to the wrong side of the Eastern continent, had no plans to actually meet the rest of the group, gotten drunk and gotten his pendant stolen AND THEN talked about private, embarrassing, stupid things she'd said when they were in danger, had now tripped face first over someone they'd just met and gotten two handfuls of melon.
And all it was doing was making Shiki's heart do donuts inside her chest, for reasons she absolutely could not explain. She'd had to run out of the building just to get away from the chaos building up inside her head, getting a breath of cold air and open skies.
Her mind was still whirling, though. She'd hardly known Reize for a couple of weeks. The comparisons with Neku were so obvious as to be shameful; just like him, she'd become intimate friends and fought as partners to survive and protect one anothers' lives. The threat of death and consumption back into the world was no less real in either case. Shiki felt disgusted by herself, in a way. Was she just so emotionally insecure that she'd start getting funny feelings for any boy who saved her from a monster?
Heck, not just any boy, but an idiot of a boy like Reize?
Wandering over to a fountain in the square, Shiki breathed in, and from somewhere, some music began to play...
"Kid you're just so hope-a-less
Guess it don't take a scientist
To understand what's going on lately
If I feel something in my eye
Not gonna over analyze
Don't go too deep with it Shiki..."
She cast a glance back to the bar. Speaking to convince herself, she continued.
"But you and me, what it'll be...
Don't make a fuss and get crazy over you and me
What do I do?
Relied on you
Feel like I'm getting a little too close to you, Reize, hey..."
She sat down on the edge of the fountain...
"It's just a little crush (crush)
Not like I need every time we touch
It's just some little thing (crush)
...Not like everything I do depends on you!"
...and realized who was staring back at her. Shiki's heart sank as she remembered; that's right, she hadn't even looked at herself... well, not herself in a mirror for over two weeks. The fact staring back at her wasn't her own; in her mind's eye, she remembered what she really looked like for a moment, and everything just became worse.
"There's a problem here: duplicity
The fact of my identity
Something I've for-got-ten lately
My heart got muddled up so fast
I dunno if it's gonna last
This whole thing is driving me crazy!"
Frustrated, Shiki stood up in a hurry, balled her hands up into fists and stomped away again. Walking over to a market stall, she picked up a pair of headphones that were on sale at a 'curiosities frome othere worldes' stand.
"But you and me, what it'll be...
Won't make a fuss and get crazy over you and me
My partner,
'I like you'?
Am I just looking for a sub-sti-tut-e?"
"...It's just a little crush (crush)
Not like I need every time we touch
It's just some little thing (crush)
...Not like everything I do depends on you!"
"Sha-la-la-la, sha-la-la-la," sang some girls in the background. Shiki began to walk back towards the inn, staring at her hands all the way.
"What's wrong with me?
What am I thinking, in this body?
What am I thinking, Eri?"
"...It's just a little crush (crush)
Not like I need every time we touch
It's just some little thing (crush)
...Not like everything I do depends on you...!"
Shiki stood by the fountain, uncertain of everything in her life.
