SeeD is a specialized mercenary force made up of gifted young people and is independent from any nation or military. Taking jobs from any agency for a price, SeeD has been known to take missions in everything from civilian protection, military support, or covert ops. They are a versatile force who are trained to be the elite of the elite. Some SeeD even command the power of a Guardian Force, a spiritual entity that can be called forth to aid in combat and also supplies the user with magical power.

SeeD was founded by Cid Kramer as a independent force that would handle forces that the military could not handle. Since its founding, SeeDs are viewed with a high level of respect due to the requirements that it takes to join the organization. These include a written exam, a field exam in an actual combat zone, and acceptance by Headmaster Kramer. Cadets are allowed to apply from age 15-19 and are barred from further attempts once they hit age 20.

SeeD used to have three headquarters around the world: Balamb, Trabia, and Galbadia. Each of these locations have their own mentalities and specialties but SeeD candidates can only take the exam at Balamb Garden. However, in this new world, only Balamb Garden seems to have crossed over. Trabia and Galbadia garden remain to be undiscovered World Shards.

History

SeeD is the name of a mercenary force founded by Cid and Edea Kramer. SeeD was started shortly after Edea received the dying Ultimecia's powers and met Squall Leonhart from the future who told her about the SeeD.

To the outside world, SeeD is a mercenary force for hire, conducting missions around the world as battle support and undercover operatives. Their services are requested by governments and civilians; their tasks range from providing military support to protecting civilians. Its true purpose, however, is to ensure Squall Leonhart among other students will be trained to become strong enough to take on Ultimecia in the future, according to the encounter Edea had.

After The Republic of Galbadia was taken over by Edea (Ultimecia), and the Heartless Came, the Balamb Garden soon found itself unable to stem the sudden influx of heartless all over the globe. And after their world fell, Squall Leonhart was nowhere to be found.
