The ShinRa Electric Power Company is a mega corperation that specializes in Mako Energy production but also has a variety of other departments, including military hardware, space exploration, and medical research. Due to it's size, wealthy, and it's monopoly on just about anything people want to buy, ShinRa had a large amount of pull with the governments of the Planet. Since the Darkness, ShinRa's power structure has been shaken and it's empire has been scattered to the wind, forcing them to look for new avenues to once again regain its former glory.

Currently, the ShinRa's major enemy is the nation of Wutai, who stood up to ShinRa's attempt to bring it's influence to their lands. Since the darkness, the war has taken a strange shift, going from a one sided conflict to an evenly matched war that drags through the World of Ruin. It's current stronghold is the city of Goug, acting as the new centerpiece in ShinRa's operations.

As it stands, the ShinRa is attempting to spread it's influence across the World of Ruin, building new Mako reactors in areas of great power.

Further Description

ShinRa is overseen by a board of directors, each of which represent a specific department and oversee the day to day operations of that department. This board of directors often make crucial decisions that often effect a great many people who happen to be in the way of these decisions. Over the board of directors, a President and Vice President oversee the company operations and act as defacto leaders of all the company surveys. Unlike most corporate titles, the role of President and Vice President seem to be one that is passed along the family line.

To protect ShinRa's interests in the world, the company has three military arms who protect corporate interests and oversee that ShinRa continues to prosper on. These arms combine together as ShinRa's Public Safety Maintenance Department.

The first and least glamourous of ShinRa's military arm is the Public Security. Public Security is the military police force of ShinRa, overseeing public safety and acting as the first responders to any trouble near ShinRa corporate property. Public Security is thankless work and are often seen as faceless grunts by the public at large.

The second major arm of the ShinRa military is the elite force SOLDIER. Made up of the best of the best, SOLDIER applicants must complete a strenuous physical and mental exam in order to be accepted into the illustrious organization. Made up of ShinRa's legendary heroes and those who want to be ShinRa's next legendary heroes, SOLDIERs are divided into three classes and are masters of both physical and magical combat. For this reason, SOLDIER both assist Public Security operations and handle ShinRa's special operations. Due to this reputation, SOLDIER is often overrun with applicants striving to be the next Sephiroth.

Finally, The Investigative Division of General Affairs Department or 'Turks' are the intelligence division of ShinRa. Turks usually handle missions that the company wants swept under the rug and protect corporate secrets from prying eyes. Turks is a organization that is not seen but its results are often apparent to anyone looking for them.

History

Also known as Shinra Inc, or Shin-Ra. Before the city of Midgar was ripped from its roots, this was a magnificent company which was believed to have a bright future ahead of it. But soon after the mass desertion of Genesis and much of SOLDIER's ranks, it found the city under siege as Genesis employed massive black beasts - the Heartless.

By the time the Genesis problem was dealt with, resulting in the loss of further SOLDIER forces and the Nibelheim incident... ShinRa had far worse issues to deal with than to try and capture a fleeing Zack. Wutai, having gotten its hands on Heartless, around the same time as Genesis, had been storming Midgar with this dark force for the four years since the Nibelheim incident. What is left of Soldier has come to the city's defense, and the Turks commit their own to find the source of this threat. But it's all too little, too late. The world was being torn away by this dark menace. And even the overwhelming force of light - the Lifestream - began to be poisoned through the presence of Heartless, and the Mako-reactors used to fabricate the energy to fend off this dark force!

After the melding of the world, the company found itself a-midst the great city of Goug, and parked on top of the main entrance into its ruins. The company has quickly expanded its rule and taken over this city of machines and Moogles, and seeks to find the technology to recreate Midgar in its former image - using the three Reactors which passed over to assist in this; two in Midgar, one at Junon - with rumors that others have landed elsewhere.

But in this dangerous world, and with Wutai still around, they need to act fast in order to protect themselves... and to get there, they will do anything.
