History

Yuffie Kisaragi is the heir of Wutai. A privileged position to be born into, right? One would think so, anyways. Born the only child of Godo Kisaragi and his wife Kasumi Kisaragi, Yuffie spent most of her early childhood with just her mother for a parental figure. Her father was busy leading the country. Yuffie proved to be a mischievous child, leaping from one bout of trouble to the next without so much as a second thought. She quickly developed a reputation around the village as a troublemaker. But, despite that? The village loved her, and she loved the people of her home. She was their princess, of sorts, though lacking that specific title. And she never had true malice in heart, even if she did at times wind up at home with a number of things that weren't hers.

Then, her mother died due to illness, and not long after that, Shinra showed up, seeking to conquer the land of Wutai for its bounty of natural resources. Wutai could not fight such a large power for long, and was quickly brought to heel. Thanks to this, Godo and Wutai would begin changing, her father turning the villiage into more of a tourist attraction than the symbol of honor and power that it had been. Yuffie however would continue to hear stories and tales of how great Wutai had been, and dreamed of returning her home to its former glory. Around this time, Yuffie met a number of new faces, including the SOLDIER Zack Fair and would have her first encounter with AVALANCHE when the group gets tracked down by Shinra's Turks. This is also when she would learn of materia, and decide it was a great shortcut to gathering a storehouse of power for her home to use in the future.

As Yuffie grew older, things would begin changing again. Her father would finally decide to act against Shinra once more, but in a terrible way. Making a deal with the Shadow Lords, something Yuffie would remain unaware of for a time. Wutai would now have the Heartless on their side in the fight against Shinra and their SOLDIERs, and the Lifestream of the planet would begin to suffer for it. Eventually, due to her father's actions at least in part, the planet went dark, and Yuffie found herself in the World of Ruin. With Wutai more openly aligned with the Heartless and fighting Shinra. Yuffie was sent along on an attack on the Shinra center of power, Midgar, and during the journey she decided this was not the way to return Wutai to its past glory, so she fled to begin seeking a way to help her father and her home.

Personality

Yuffie is a pain in the butt. Plain and simple, this is going to be most people's first impression of the young kunoichi, and quite possibly their lasting impression unless they hang around her a lot. She's loud, obnoxious, vibrant and full of energy and she enjoys mischief. She's selfish, greedy, aggressive and not at all above taking things that belong to others. She's cocky and self-assured, prone to bragging and calling others names or giving them frustrating nicknames.

But. On the inside, Yuffie is a good person. Mostly. Aside from the whole stealing thing. Which is for a good cause. So it's okay. Right? Right! She's a bubbly, kind-hearted girl who in general does want to do and does do the right thing. She wants to save Wutai from the heartless, and she doesn't want to hurt innocent people to return Wutai's freedom. She's loyal to a fault to those she considers friend or even just people she thinks need help and she's susceptible to bouts of conscience when she does happen to steal something. The girl is prone to episodes of 'she shouldn't have done that' impulsiveness due to her desire to be like one of the people she's heard about in stories, a legendary hero who always wins and never backs down.

Kunoichi! - Yuffie is the heiress of Wutai, a highly trained ninja from a land of ninjas. What is a ninja? Well. A ninja is awesome, is what. Yuffie is very agile, both in and out of combat - and capable of rather astounding acrobatics. She wields a hefty shuriken, which looks more like a giant tire iron with sharp points, the weapon is quite fierce when used in melee combat as well as when thrown. She's incredibly dexterous, able to pick pockets and throw her weapon so that it returns to hand.

Thief - Yuffie might just be the best thief around, you know. Combined with her being a ninja, it's entirely possible that she might pick your pocket without even realizing she was there! Or she'll do things the easy way and beat you senseless, then take your materia and other valuables. ...For a good cause, of course!
