The Kingdom of Baron is a small but powerful kingdom that commands a powerful airship fleet known as the Red Wings as well as an army of dragoons, and a number of skilled mages. King Baron is the ruler of this kingdom although he has no biological successors. His wife passed away before they had any children, but he did take two orphans under his wing: Kain Highwind, commander of the unstoppable dragoon army, and Cecil, leader of the Red Wings. Other notable members of Baron kingdom are Cid Pollendina, the head engineer and designer of the Red Wings airships, and Rosa Farrell, a skilled white wizard and archer. Baigan is the king's personal advisor and has ultimate authority over all of Baron's armies as the Captain of Baron's Guard. Initially Baron was a peaceful kingdom, although lately they have begun attacking other countries and stealing their crystals in order to gain power. As for the king, he was once a kind and honorable ruler, although even he seems to have changed recently. He now seems to desire to only make Baron the most powerful kingdom in the world..Or do they have ulterior motives?

History

Baron was once ruled by a benevolent king, who took Cecil and Kain under his wing and raised them as his children. Cecil was trained as a Dark Knight, while Kain decided to become a Dragoon in the mold of his father. Cecil was eventually made captain of the Red Wings. However, the king was eventually killed by Cagnazzo, one of the Archfiends, who took the throne himself, unbeknownst to the people of Baron. One day, Cecil was asked to retrieve the Crystal of Water in Mysidia. The people of Mysidia resisted - and some of the Red Wings were killed in the exchange. Still, Cecil successfully retrieved the crystal, unaware that the fallen soldiers would become beacons to Heartless, a trap lain by Golbez.

Cecil questioned the demand to steal from these people, and as a result, he was dismissed from his post, and ordered to hunt Eidolons in the Misty Valley, and to deliver a Ring to the village of Mist. Kain was instructed to accompany him. The package contained both Bombs and Crimson Jazz' which would burn Mist down right before their eyes. Kain eventually returned to Baron without Cecil. When he got there, he found out that Cagnazzo (disguised as the king) appointed a man named Golbez to lead the Red Wings, and Kain was brought under his control and made second in command. Rosa was worried about Cecil, and ran off to look for him. Cid had developed a new airship, the Enterprise, but would not allow the king to use it for malevolent purposes. As a result, Cid was arrested.

Golbez and Kain led the Red Wings into wars with Damcyan and Fabul for the Crystals of Fire and Air, respectively - while employing a new dark force; the Heartless. However, these Heartless soon began to pop up everywhere, and began to ravage cities. Still, they succeeded in taking the two crystals, further unbalancing the world... It was not long before this world fell. And now, with Cecil yet to turn a Paladin, Baron holds much power even in this new world. There have even been talk of them employing a group named Khamja to further their agenda. How long must this injustice last? How much longer, must Baron be a puppet to Cagnazzo and Golbez?
