Gummi Blocks (AKA Star Fragments) are small, brightly colored blocks that often land after what appears to be a meteor shower. They are heavily resistant to heat or cold. When bonded, they form a complete environmental seal.

Magic directly applied to Gummi Blocks has various effects. Black Magic, since it mostly consists of hurling gobs of elemental stuff at things, affects Gummi Blocks as would the application of an appropriate amount of force would have normally. White Magic does appear to work on Gummi Blocks, but is less effective. For maximum effectiveness, one should use a Gummi Block dedicated to repair.

The blocks do not float, generate power, shoot, or exhibit any special abilities until they are activated by exposure to Gummispace, upon which they begin floating and will propel themselves when controlled to do so. The exception to this is Synthesis, which can create single-use magical cast items - although they're less powerful than real magic.

You can take them back apart once they are connected, but only in their inert state.

For those who are wondering (you know who you are), Gummi Blocks are edible. They are nontoxic and will digest without incident. They have a variety of flavors and textures based on their color and function. It’s almost like some kind of SCIENCE CANDY.

You probably don’t want to go to Gummispace after eating one however. It would be uncomfortable. Very, very uncomfortable.

Gummi Blocks can be acquired in many places, whether found or purchased. Chip and Dale operate a stall in Traverse Town to service and advise people interested in Gummi Blocks and Ships.

That's Cool, Now What Do I Do With Them?

Gummi Blocks (Also known as Star Fragments) connect to each other (and only to each other) when in their inert state. They can be disconnected easily enough as well. When exposed to Gummispace, Gummi Blocks grow significantly, generating a protective field around them commensurate with their nature as fragments of a Barrier of Light. This field protects occupants from Heartless assault, as well as the problems inherent to traveling through the Darkness.

There are a large variety of Gummi Blocks. Some of them act as engines, others speed boosters. There are blocks to create a control cockpit, additional armoring, a variety of special effects, and even weaponry.

Aerodynamics are irrelevant in Gummispace. There is no air to worry about there. The maneuverability of a Gummiship is entirely dependent upon the blocks used to make them. Fighting the Heartless between the worlds is not the same as fighting them on foot. The massive Heartless that appear in Gummispace are blocked from the worlds by the Barriers of Light in most cases, and the Heartless always seek to break apart a Gummiship to gain the hearts within. Should a Gummiship take enough damage, it will break apart, rendering those within unprotected against the Darkness and the Heartless within. They will need good friends or great luck to survive... And perhaps land in a place that will be kind to them.

Star Shards

Star Shards are a special kind of Gummi Block, appearing as a star-shaped crystal. They do not require exposure to Gummispace, but they do travel using it. Those who are well-versed in using them can travel quickly and safely between worlds. Those who are not familiar, however, will find the power of the Shards are wild and not easily tamed. They can be flung anywhere within the worlds, at any time. The power is mysterious and difficult to master, should one even manage to find one of these extremely rare objects in the first place.
