A Revelation Most Profound
Date of Cutscene: 24 November 2012
Location: The Corridors Of Darkness
Synopsis: The mysterious masked swordsman Gilgamesh calls forth memories long-lost out of the mist, and has a profound and epic life-changing realization that threatens to change his very way of life forever, just like every Marvel Comic promises to do to Spider-Man. It's relevant because Marvel's owned by Disney now! Isn't that edgy?
Cast of Characters: Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Those Little Yellow Boxes I Stole From Deadpool, The Everpresent And Impartial Narrator

Darkness. Everything is darkness. Everywhere is darkness; Darkness coils to the left, turns to the right, veers off down the middle, and meanders lightly backwards. These are the Corridors, the Dark Place between the worlds that only those of exceptionally evil, nasty, unpleasant sort of hearts can go, those who risk becoming tainted by the shadows with every step. It is a place where the Heartless spare none; they swarm and slice away at the Light like the hungry little locust wannabes they are, because that's what happens if you step into the Darkness and expect to walk out unscathed. I guess what I, the Everpresent and Impartial Narrator, am trying to get across to you, dear reader, is that these are pretty bad.

But don't worry, True Believer! There are some rare few who can use these mysterious windy-type corridors (that's windy like a key in a clock, not windy like lots of fast-moving air) without fear of such corruption! And among them is our ever-lovin' blue-eyed...I mean, ever-lovin' white-eyed Gil! That is, Gilgamesh. And, as always, he is accompanied by his beloved partner Enkidu, the massive king of all Rock Hounds! Truly, a pair of allies stauncher than staunch! Can one be stauncher than staunch? I ought to look that up. But while I'm looking that up, Gilgamesh and his partner travel through these evil places without fear of Heartless or corruption, for what Heartless could stand against the mighty Gilgamesh, and what poison could seep into his heart?

Gilgamesh is pretty sure the answer is 'none'.

"I tell you, Enkidu, we've been in a slump lately! A slump! We need to hunt some treasure, and quickly! I can't exactly return to Faris empty-handed, right? She'd just make fun of me- I mean, HE'D just make fun of me! Gosh." The grey-skinned swordsman scratches the back of his head thoughtfully as they make their way through the shadows, a frown growing across his hidden face. "It's sure hard to remember that I'm not supposed to know that she's a she. It kind of makes all these dates awk- what is it, Enkidu? Do you see something? Did Shadow Timmy fall down a Shadow Well?! I WARNED YOU ABOUT THOSE WELLS, SHADOW TIMMY! I WARNED YOU!"

Enkidu, for those not blessed with Protagonist Vision, is currently hissing at one of the shadows roiling about in the darkness! Gilgamesh squints at it as he draws his Totally Real Keyblade(tm), the Made In Hong Kong keychain dangling off it menacingly. He levels the Totally Real Keyblade(tm) at the shadow, his eyes narrowing. "Hey, you there! I don't know who you are, but you've spooked my boon and bosom companion Enkidu, and that probably means you're no good! Also, you're made of darkness, and that's probably no good either! But I'm not the kind of person to judge, you know, I mean, I'm not part of Arcadia or anything - I hear they have people whose JOB it is to judge! Can you imagine? Being all...Judge Judge Judge at people all day every day? I don't think I could be paid to be that judgementa...huh?"

Gilgamesh blinks as the shadow continues to grow. It rises, rises, rises, until it is as wide as Gilgamesh, and nearly as tall - it stops just shy of eight feet, details beginning to form along its body. The darkness defines, details, shifts and writhes, until it has become like unto a suit of armor; a cape hangs off it, and a distinctive, triangular helmet sits atop it. Gilgamesh blinks again. "Uh...d-do I know you? You look kind of familiar..."

WHY

"Wh-why? Why what?"

WHY DID YOU

"Why did I what?!" Gilgamesh demands. "Why did I leave that awesome-looking sword in the statue? That pretty girl said I-"

WHY DID YOU LET ME DIE

Gilgamesh freezes. Memories come roaring back, unbidden, as the Heartless approaches. Enkidu barks, a loud, angry bark, and lunges forward to get between the Heartless and his master, but Gilgamesh does not hear them. There is fire, in his memory; flame and blood and violence and destruction, senseless and chaotic, without glory or fun or joy. There is nothing happy in this fragment of memory, only sorrow and death. This is war, he knows; this is true war, a war he has not thought of in...in...what war? What war was he ever in?

In his arms is the man in armor. The man lays there, bleeding, dying; a wound gapes through his armor, the remnants of the blade that slew him sticking forth from his chest. The holder of said weapon lies several feet away, a massive red blade skewering him to the wall - a blade Gilgamesh does not know, but feels instinctively that he ought to. He looks down at the man he holds in his arms; the man's shaking hand reaches for his helmet, and he pushes it up so that Gilgamesh can see his smile. He opens his mouth to speak, and-

WHY DID YOU LET ME DIE

Gilgamesh is jolted from his reverie as Enkidu lunges at the shadow; whatever the man said, it is lost to the sound of the creature, and if Gilgamesh isn't careful, he'll get lost to the creature, too! He clutches his Totally Real Keyblade(tm) in both hands, charging into the fray; a few strikes later, and the shadow vanishes, as incorporeal as it had ever been. Gilgamesh exhales a breath he had not realized he had even taken - when was the last time he took a breath? When was the last time he breathed REFLEXIVELY, instead of doing it to make other people less nervous?

His hands shaking, Gilgamesh lowers the blade, letting it vanish into the Vault. He looks down at Enkidu, reaching his hand down to pet his partner; this only elicts an odd, raised eyebrow from the massive rock hound.

"You know, Enkidu, that strange black fellow gave me an idea!" Gilgamesh declares suddenly. There's no point in dwelling on the strange vision now; not like he could do anything about it at the moment! Besides, great ideas could never wait. "You know how he did that booming, epic voice? What if I started doing that, and then started narrating my own adventures?"

Enkidu groans- hey, wait, what? Narrating your adventures! Th-that's my job! It's my only job! I'm the Everpresent and Impartial Narrator! I don't even have a name...! Don't take that away from me!

"Too bad, buddy! Now it's my turn to be Narrator! Ahem. After the EPIC DEFEAT of the Heartless, the mighty Gilgamesh continued on his journey towards another world, ready to see what wonders awaited him this time! With his boon companion Enkidu by his side, he felt assured and confident that nothing could ever get in his way for long! Still, what was that mysterious vision? Why did he have it? And what will he have for dinner? Only time will tell!" Gilgamesh nods. "Yes, Gilgamesh nodded; this was sure to be a great plan."

B-but...hey...

What about my job...?
