Oswald the Lucky Rabbit used to be the darling of Disney Town. Beloved by all, including his half-brother Mickey Mouse, he was a rascal who always got into adventures and put a smile on the face of the townspeople. Despite his popularity, however, he seemed to disappear after being suddenly replaced in the town's affection by Mickey. Embittered at how quickly all his good deeds were forgotten, Oswald's heart grew cold and he inadvertently opened a Corridor of Darkness to another land. Trapped, Oswald built his own version of Disney Town with him as the star and fostered the darkness within his heart until that power became strong enough to let him escape. Returning to a world that idolised Mickey Mouse as their King, Oswald has sworn to retake his place as the hero of Disney Town whatever the cost.

History

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was the first citizen of Disney Town even before there was a Disney Town. The world's architecture and population was in many ways shaped by his adventures long before anyone had even heard of his half-brother Mickey. He was the most popular person in the city and, in time, Kingship seemed to be his destiny.

Groomed for the role despite his rascally nature, Oswald was briefly apprenticed to Yen Sid. Under his guidance the Prince started to learn the secrets of magic and the world outside Disney Town, the knowledge that would lead to King Mickey becoming the balanced and wise ruler he is today in his stead. Despite this preparation and ground-laying, however, something suddenly changed in Disney Town. Formerly their most cherished member, he was forgotten by the townsfolk almost overnight. Mickey Mouse became their new favorite, and the world reshaped itself in his image. The change in focus did not suit Oswald. Rather than be happy for his half-brother's success Oswald closed in on himself and became bitter and angry, withdrawing from public life.

It was under this self-imposed exile that darkness infiltrated his heart. Already having the potential to be an adept sorcerer from the start Yen Sid had given him, Oswald accidentally tapped into that power and opened a corridor of Darkness, which sucked him from Disney Town and into a land altogether more strange.

Even today Oswald can't accurately identify the nature of world he transported to, though he eventually called it the Wasteland. There his one-sided rivalry with Mickey Mouse grew ever stronger, as did his adeptness at controlling the power of darkness. Using it, the Wasteland was morphed into a broken mirror image of Disney Town using Oswald's magical power and memories, with him as its rightful and eternal star.

After many years trapped in the Wasteland Oswald mastered the darkness. Using it, he was able to reopen another corridor of Darkness and -- after a few jumps to worlds entirely unlike his own -- refound his way to Disney Town. Once home, he found that he was completely forgotten. Nobody had searched for him. Nobody had cared. King Mickey was now all anyone could talk about -- specifically, where had he gone? It was said that he was on a quest. That he was searching for a Key.

It didn't matter much to Oswald. He would retake what had been stolen from him. He would be King of Disney Town. He would surpass his brother, the pretender, whatever the cost.
