Background
Imagine if you will, the town of Treno, the city that never sleeps. A small family serving a certain set of the nobility is something more than it seems, hiding a bloodline of trained assassins. The males deal in refinement of the art of the knife, poisons along with other technlogical advances. The females on the other hand carried with them mystical arts, passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter. They have their secrets, and keep them well.
Meet Echo. During her childhood she was passed down these secrets in the interest of keeping up the family business, which while not always apparent to her, was death. Early on she understood the workings of such as 'laundry' and was therefore convinced that being 'taken out out to dry' had a completely different meaning during her childhood.
Eventually, the young batgirl decided that she did not want to be coerced into continuing the family business as she neared adulthood, she wanted to make her own decisions, so she left home and wandered abroad. There was still a problem, however. The business was the only skill she knew, other than magic and even that ran only along the path of destruction. What was a girl to do! She then realized if there were things to be had, then she would have to use her skills to drag them out herself.
Personality
Having grown up in a somewhat privileged but strange household, Echo was not the most normal child. The family did well financially but they kept to themselves, more or less, sometimes out of necessity, other times well, who wanted to be around the creepy bat people who dressed in black and probably had people buried in their basement? As such, she grew up a good bit different, and her humor tends toward the black, sometimes even morbid. Her sense of detachment from things that would otherwise startle or bother other people can lead her to seeming manic even, as she's got a good bit more tolerant for matters dealing in death and danger, though she hadn't taken up full time work like the rest of her family.
For flaws she's a bit naive at times, having not seen too terribly much of the world yet, and she seems to think her magic can get her out of most scrapes, though she's only ever been in real trouble a few times so far. She might also have a dangerous false sense of security from this, thinking she's tougher than she actually is. As thus, she's sometimes careless, when dealing with other people as well, like in conversation. As long as no one is getting stabbed or shot it's not really a big deal, right?
As such, she's not quite as brutish or evil as some of her family members might have been, and she will never accept a job that harms a child. As long as she sticks to that in her mind, then she can live with the fact she will never be as bad as some people. Not only would she never harm a young person, she'd be liable to turn on allies if one was put in danger by them.
Skills
Her magical abilities are that of a black mage and she can cast various elemental destructive magic, her particular family gift also worked deadly poison into their magic arts, so even her directly damaging abilities can envenom someone.
As a bat beast kin, Echo is able to fly with the leathery wings attached to her back. This is however a mundane form of flight and is subject to her endurance so she can tire out. She also would have trouble carrying someone else and flying unless her strength was aided somehow.
She has an enhanced sense of hearing and limited echolocation, due to her ears, though this can be disrupted as it can be for normal bats by generating noise.
As an aside, she does and can bite people to drink blood, however this has to due to the breed of bats she comes from being hemotophagous (blood subsisting) so she's not a REAL vampire... YET. She can eat solid food to a degree, and also drinks things like water and other beverages.

Connection: Echo | December 15th, 2013 | Aerith heads back to the woods near Goug after the irritating Black Friday fiasco to clear her head, and perhaps take a moment to commune with the spirits there that have been untouched by Shinra's reactors.
