Founded by refugees from worlds completely consumed by the Heartless, the Shard Seekers dedicate themselves to searching for World Shards wherever they might be found, ranging far and wide and chasing rumors and legends. Their day-to-day affairs involve monster and Heartless hunting, gathering information, running people's errands, and other assorted side quests and mini-games, but all is devoted toward their overarching goal, which lends much-needed unity to lives shaken by sudden homelessness. Yet though the Seekers pursue the Shards, they do not necessarily do so to restore worlds; individual motives differ, but what is generally shared is an appreciation of the adventure involved. Ultimately, those who emerge from the darkness stranded and alone will find a welcoming home with this motley crew, should they need it.

History

After forming the Shard Seekers in Traverse Town's lantern-lit inn, Reize, Lily, and Ivo concluded that they must find a base of operations and gather information on where the shards they seek are located. As a city of mercenary Clans now home to the Fire Crystal and the skilled engineers and metalworkers who thrive near it, Fluorgis seemed a good candidate. The group split up so that Reize could escort Tifa Lockhart to Goug, meeting Shiki Misaki along the way, while Ivo and Lily took a ship from Luca to Costa Del Sol and met Skoll. Separately crossing the desert, eventually, they unite in Fluorgis, flower of the desert.

There, Reize meets Lenn while performing a side quest for her, and Faruja Senra receives special dispensation from his Church to team up with the motley crew. Riku rescues Reize when Scarmiglione steals our hero's mysterious pendant, and is welcomed into the fold. Now with a servicable -- if ramshackle -- headquarters, they work unofficially to acquire the resources necessary to be recognized as an official Clan, and thereby gain access to the Fire Crystal, which Ivo needs to craft a device theoretically capable of detecting World Shards.
