Heartless are swarming to worlds in the absence of sufficient Keyblade wielders, and the enigmatic Shadow Lords - headed by Malificent - are further speeding up their spread. Within worlds close to the border of Darkness, Grande villains seek to use this dark force for their own benefit - or find themselves manipulated by these 'Shadow Lords'.

Yet, the World Hearts resist. As darkness spreads across their lands, the worlds - failing in a continued existence on their power of their own Light - mesh through the sheer power of Light. They leave the 'gates' to their now weakened forms in the hands of a group of women called the 'Princesses of Heart', of whom none are truly aware of their importance. But much of the darkness that was teeming within these worlds has followed into this new world, plaguing it and creating a World of Ruin. Much in fact, is lost to the darkness, and the heroes find themselves being pushed back by the Heartless and their 'subjects'.

In the meantime, the worlds closest to Light go unaware of the presence of the Heartless so far, and yet others begin to prepare arms against them. Creatures of the night let their presence be known, while knights come to their castles defense.

Through the power of Malificent and the Hollow Bastion, Corridors of Darkness form between these worlds, truly 'connecting' them to eachother and allowing an easier access for the Heartless to use - as those portals are permanently transfixed in place.

Soon, many worlds will be pulled into a war against the immense force of the Heartless, the Shadow Lords, and the many villains that would use this opportunity for ruinous ends. But will Malificent's gates backfire on her, as people begin to travel through them in search of comrades and help?
